COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 4 Ohio State held its annual intrasquad wrestle-offs to help determine the 2022-23 lineup Thursday with the Team Scarlet earning a 20-19 win over the Team Gray at the Covelli Center.

125 | No. 11 Malik Heinselman (Gray) def. Andre Gonzales (Scarlet) | D, 3-2
Heinselman scored the first points of the evening with a takedown late in the first period to lead 2-1 heading into the second period after a Gonzales escape. Another escape for Gonzales tied the match at 2-all early in the second. That score held until an escape by Heinselman put him in the lead, 3-2, early in the third, which stood.
133 | Jesse Mendez (Scarlet) def. Dylan Koontz (Gray) | Fall, 0:58
Mendez scored a takedown early and after a Koontz escape finished off the match in less than a minute with a fall at 58 seconds.
141 | Jordan Decatur (Scarlet) def. No. 8 Dylan D’Emilio (Gray) | D, 6-4
Decatur recorded the first takedown followed by a D’Emilio escape for a 2-1 Decatur lead after one period. D’Emilio tied it at 2-all with an escape for the only scoring in the second. Decatur took the lead, 3-2, on an escape halfway through the third before D’Emilio recorded a takedown for the 4-3 advantage. Decatur responded with a late escape and takedown to win by decision 6-4.
157 | No. 22 Paddy Gallagher (Gray) def. Isaac Wilcox (Scarlet) | D, 4-1
The first points of the match came in the second period on a Gallagher escape for a 1-0 lead. Gallagher added two to his lead with a takedown before the end of the second for a 3-0 lead. Wilcox earned an escape in the third but Gallagher finished off the match with riding time to win by decision, 4-1.
165 | Bryce Hepner (Gray) def. No. 7 Carson Kharchla (Scarlet) | D, 2-1
There was no scoring in the first period though it was action packed. Hepner escaped to start the second to lead 1-0. Kharchla earned a penalty point when Hepner was called for stalling to even the match at 1-all. With riding time in the third, Hepner earned the win, 2-1.
174 | No. 6 Ethan Smith (Gray) def. Bryer Hall (Scarlet) | Fall, 2:27
Smith got the scoring started with a takedown followed a Hall escape. Another Smith takedown and Hall escape made it 4-2 Smith. Smith then took the match with a pin at 2:27.
184 | No. 4 Kaleb Romero (Scarlet) def. Gavin Bell (Gray) | TF, 24-8
Romero earned a quick takedown and added another after a Bell escape for a 4-1 lead. Romero added another couple takedowns around a Bell escape for an 8-3 lead after one. Romero led 18-5 after two and then earned the win by technical fall, 24-8.
197 | No. 9 Gavin Hoffman (Gray) def. Seth Shumate (Scarlet) | MD, 8-0
Hoffman scored first with a takedown halfway through the first for a 2-0 advantage. Hoffman added another takedown in the second for a 4-0 edge. Hoffman started the third with an escape and then added a takedown for a 7-0 lead and the win by major decision, 8-0.

Orndorff started things off with a takedown and added another after a Misita escape for a 4-1 lead after the first. Misita escaped to open the second but Orndorff responded with a fall at 3:56.
The first match of the regular season will be against No. 16 Virginia Tech Nov. 11 (7 p.m.).
