No. 17 Ohio State Hosts No. 5 Denver

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team hosts its first home meet of the season this weekend, meeting No. 5 Denver on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. ET in the Covelli Center.
Important Meet Day Information
- The university and City of Columbus policies require wearing of masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status, for all faculty, staff and guests. The department requires all patrons at our events to wear your mask at all times for your own safety and for the health, safety and well-being of others, including our student-athletes, campus community and visitors.
- Concessions will be closed at all university-related athletic events. Water will be available. Fans will not be permitted to bring food/beverage into athletic facilities. The department will continue to monitor and evaluate this policy moving forward and communicate any changes when applicable
Last Time Out
Ohio State opened the 2022 season at Arkansas last weekend. The team swept the individual titles, but ultimately fell to the Razorbacks, 195.450-195.025. Lexi Edwards, Colby Miller, Ella Hodges and Jenna Hlavach each earned individual titles in the meet.
Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Leading the Buckeyes on each event after the season opener are Edwards on vault (9.875), Miller on bars (9.875), Hodges on beam (9.875) and Hlavach on floor (9.875).
- Freshmen Hlavach, Kaitlyn Grimes and Maddy Pike made their collegiate debut in the meet against Arkansas.
- Head Coach Meredith Paulicivic has signed a contract extension through the 2025 season. In four years at the helm of the Buckeyes, she has guided the team to the NCAA Regional Final and program-record scores.
Buckeyes vs. Pioneers
Ohio State holds a 5-7 record against Denver in the all-time series dating back to 1995. The last time the teams met was in 2017. That season the Buckeyes faced the Pioneers in two consecutive meets, with Denver taking both matchups.
Scouting Denver
The Pioneers come to Columbus off of a program-record season opening score of 197.00 against San Jose State last weekend. The team set of tied season-opening record on vault (49.225) and floor (49.350). The team ranks fourth in the country on bars (49.275) and floor.
National Rankings
The Buckeyes are ranked No. 17 in this week’s Road to Nationals standings. The team ranks 13th on floor (48.975) and vault (48.975). The team entered the season with a No. 22 in the WCGA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Honoring the 2020 Buckeye Seniors
At Saturday’s meet, Ohio State will honor its 2020 senior class of Olivia Aepli, Peyton Hinterberger and Nevin Adamski. Adamski specialized in floor, uneven bars and beam for the Buckeyes. The three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honoree competed two seasons and in 19 meets for the Buckeyes. Hinterberger lettered three years for Ohio State, competing primarily on bars. She appeared in the lineup during every meet her junior and senior season. Aepli competed in every meet during her four-year Ohio State career, winning 14 individual titles. She won a Big Ten title on bars in 2018 to become the team’s first conference title winner since 2013 and first bars champion sine 1986 for the Buckeyes.
Meet Day Promotions
This year, Ohio State will once again host its Short People Appreciation meet. This weekend, adults who are shorter than 5’1, the height of head coach Meredith Paulicivic, can receive free admission. The day-of offer can be redeemed at the box office of the Covelli Center, at the southwest corner of the building.
