COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its first team match of 2023, the No. 17-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated No. 4-ranked Oklahoma, 5-2, Sunday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
The Buckeyes dropped the doubles point to the Sooners (3-2), the NCAA runner-up last season, before winning five of six singles matches to capture the team win. Shelly Bereznyak, Lucia Marzal, Irina Cantos Siemers, Sydni Ratliff and Kolie Allen all notched singles victories for the Scarlet and Gray, with four of the five winning in straight sets.
Quoting Coach Melissa Schaub
“Today was a good win – it was our first match of the season and it was a big one. I thought we came out a little nervous in doubles, which is to be expected, but we competed really well at all six singles spots. We talked yesterday about needing to play a complete match and I thought we were pretty close to that. We are excited to be hosting Kickoff Weekend starting Friday and will get back to work to prepare.”
