No. 16 Ohio State Defeats No. 10 Cal, Pitt in Regular Season Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 16 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team closed out the 2022 regular season with a win over No. 10 California and Pittsburgh Friday night at the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes earned a team score of 197.100 for their 13th win of the season and their third 197-plus score in the last three weeks.

“I am so proud of the fight in this team tonight,” Ohio State head coach Meredith Paulicivic said. “This is a great way to close the regular season and gives us a lot of confidence headed into next weekend’s Big Ten Championships at Covelli.”

MEET NOTES

  • Starting off Senior Night strong on the first rotation was senior Sydney Jennings, who won her fifth vault title of the year with a score of 9.850. Freshman Jenna Hlavach also tied for first for her second vault title of the year. Junior Lexi Edwards and sophomore Raina Malas recorded scores of 9.825. Sophomores Nicole Riccardi and Emma Pritchard earned 9.800 marks. The team finished the rotation with a score of 49.125.
  • Freshman Stephanie Berger and Riccardi led Ohio State with first-place scores of 9.850 on bars. Hlavach and Edwards each scored 9.800s while junior Alexis Hankins and senior Colby Miller hit 9.775s. The Buckeyes recorded a team score of 49.075 to earn the event title, the team’s fifth on bars this season.
  • Stephanie Berger, a Boston, Mass. native, tied her career high on beam for Ohio State with a score of 9.925. The score also earned her her second event title of the night. Hankins and Hannah Oliveros tied for fourth overall with 9.875s. Jennings and Emma Pritchard scored 9.850s.
  • Ohio State earned yet another impressive finish on floor with three Buckeyes earning scores of 9.925 to push Ohio State to the win. Edwards, Hankins, and Hlavach each tallied a 9.925, with Edwards and Hankins tying their career-highs. Jojo Warga earned another 9.900 score for the Buckeyes while Claire Gagliardi and Savannah Gonzalez tied with 9.850s. Overall, the team earned its sixth floor title of the year with a score of 49.535.
  • Following the meet, Ohio State recognized its four 2022 seniors: Gagliardi, Jennings, Miriam Perez and Miller.

UP NEXT

Ohio State ends the regular season 13-4 overall. Next week, the Buckeyes host the 2022 Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Championships at the Covelli Center on Saturday, March 19.
