No. 14 Buckeyes Finish Sweep with 9-4 Win over BGSU

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State men's hockey jumped out to a 4-0 first-period lead and didn't look back en route to a 9-4 win over Bowling Green Saturday in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes, who had points from 13 players, pushed the lead to 8-1 after 40 minutes.
Joe Dunlap paced the Buckeyes with four points, on two goals and two assists. Tate Singleton had three assists and points, while Davis Burnside scored twice. Scooter Brickey and Stepehen Halliday each had a goal and an assist, while Matt Cassidy had two helpers.
The game wrapped up the first part of the season for both teams. The Buckeyes head into break 12-7-1, while the Falcons are 8-12-0. Ohio State swept the series, with a 5-2 road win Friday, and has won the last four games in the series.

The Short Story
- Ohio State led 2-0 2:05 into the game and 4-0 after the first period.
- At 1:11 Joe Dunlap scored, as he put in the rebound of a Matt Cassidy shot that hit the post. Scooter Brickey also assisted on the tally.
- Less than a minute later Davis Burnside pushed the lead to 2-0. A shot from Tate Singleton got through the goalie, and Burnside was there to knock it over the line. Stephen Halliday had the second assist.
- Dunlap notched his second goal of the night at 10:26, scoring shorthanded on a 2-on-1, with Dominic Vidoli on the assist.
- Michael Gildon added a goal at 12:16. Jake Wise won a faceoff at center ice; Gildon carried the puck into the Falcon zone and scored from a sharp angle near the goal line.
- Ohio State had the shot advantage, 16-9, in the first.
- The Buckeyes pushed the lead to 7-0 with the first three goals of the second period.
- Patrick Guzzo scored on a 2-on-1 with Dunlap at 1:54. Singleton started the rush for his second helper of the game.
- At 13:36 Halliday converted on the power play from the faceoff circle, set up by Cole McWard and Mason Lohrei.
- Singleton and Burnside connected for a goal at 17:00, with Burnside completing the odd-man rush.
- Bowling Green scored 38 seconds later to break up the shutout, but Ohio State answered 37 seconds after that. Brickey's shot from the point got through, assisted by Cassidy and Dunlap, at 18:15.
- Buckeye goalie Jakub Dobes had 13 saves in the period, as Ohio State was outshot, 14-9.
- Bowling Green scored three in a row in the third – 47 seconds into the period, at 11:11 and 14:47 (on the power play) – for an 8-4 game.
- Cam Thiesing closed the scoring at 17:31, tallying unassisted after getting to a loose puck in the neutral zone and scoring from the right wing.
- The Buckeyes outshot the Falcons in the third, 16-9.
- For the game, Ohio State led in shots, 41-32. Dobes played the first two periods and had 22 saves on 23 shots. Ryan Snowden was between the pipes in the third and had six stops. Three goalies saw action for Bowling Green.
- Brickey led the Buckeyes with five shot blocks in the game. Ohio State blocked 14 shots as a team.
- Ohio State was 1-for-6 on the power play and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill.

Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State leads the NCAA with seven shorthanded goals this season.
- The game was Dunlap's first multiple-goal and first multiple-assist outing as a Buckeye. He had three two-assist games through his first 68 appearances. It was his first career shorthanded goal.
- Singleton had his second career three-assist game and first since March 6, 2020 vs. Wisconsin. He has four three-point nights in the Scarlet and Gray.
- Wise leads the Buckeyes with 20 points, ranking second with 13 assists.
- Thiesing and Burnside share the team goal lead with nine each.
- Halliday is second with 17 points and third with 12 assists, while Lohrei has a team-best 15 assists and is third with 15 points.
- Cassidy had his third two-assist night and third two-point game as a Buckeye.

- Halliday had two points in each game vs. Bowling Green and has five multiple-point games this season.

- On the penalty kill, Ohio State is 76-for-84 (.905), among the nation's best.
- This was the second time Ohio State scored nine goals this season, along with Oct. 20 vs. Bentley. The squad is averaging 3.55 goals per night.
