No. 1 Buckeyes Beat No. 6 Wake Forest 7-0 for their Fourth Top 10 Sweep

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Ohio State men’s tennis team beat Wake Forest 7-0 at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center to preserve their 9-0 undefeated record. The Buckeyes took on a gauntlet of four consecutive Top 10 teams in the past two weekends of competition and came out a perfect 4-0. They continue this stretch of challenging competition in Seattle at the ITA Indoor Championships next weekend.

Today’s match marks Ohio State’s fourth sweep of a Top 10 team in the last two weekends of competition and their eighth sweep on the season. The Buckeyes have only let up one point in nine matches.

The Buckeyes are undefeated in doubles on the year and clinched the first point of the day with a two-match sweep. The No. 1 ranked doubles team, Matej Vocel and Robert Cash, maintained their undefeated record and finished first on court two with a quick 6-2 victory over 20th ranked Schnaitter and Banthia. Canon Kingsley and JJ Tracy rallied back from an 0-2 deficit and clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over 19th ranked Maciag and Draper.

Singles matches ended in a 6-0 sweep with the first two points being dominant victories. Kingsley finished first on court two with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win. Tracy followed just afterwards on court four with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 straight sets win to boost the Buckeye lead to 3-0. Chasing the final point of the day was a long-fought battle on all courts; James Trotter sealed the victory on court five 6-3, 6-3 while Cash was knocking on the door. They played the matches to completion where Cash got the straight sets win 6-4, 6-3 soon after Trotter’s clinch win. Jake Van Emburgh rallied after dropping the first set 1-6 and came back 6-3, 7-6 (5) in a back-and-forth battle. Vocel fought out a long super tiebreaker win and posted a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-4 victory making the final score 7-0.

The Buckeyes travel to Seattle next weekend for the ITA Indoor National Championships.
