COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 8 Ohio State built a commanding lead and maintained control late into the second half, holding a 3-1 advantage over Memphis on Sunday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Senior forward Elle Britt spearheaded the Buckeye attack with a multi-goal performance, finding the net twice, while Amanda Schlueter added a goal and an assist to fuel the offense.
Ohio State opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Britt broke through to put the Buckeyes ahead 1-0. The Buckeyes doubled their margin in the 41st minute as Schlueter capitalized on a setup from Callie Tumilty, giving Ohio State a 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.
Goalkeeper Peighton Northrup anchored the defense through the opening half, turning away four Memphis shots on target to keep the Tigers off the board.
The Buckeyes continued to press after the break and extended their lead in the 69th minute. Schlueter connected with Britt for her second goal of the night, pushing the advantage to 3-0.
Memphis answered in the 79th minute when Mihiro Furuya scored off an assist from Ally Casey to make it 3-1, but the Buckeyes quickly managed the remaining tempo to keep the Tigers at bay.

The Buckeyes open Big Ten play at home against Penn State on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The match will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
