
Smith Named Maxwell and Walter Camp National Player of the Week

In Saturday’s game vs. Illinois, Smith finished the game with new career highs – 12 receptions for 217 yards and tied the program record with four touchdowns.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was named the was named the Maxwell National Player of the Week and the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the organizations on Tuesday afternoon.
He becomes the 16th Walter Camp Player of the Week honoree from Ohio State. Defensive lineman Caden Curry was the last Buckeye to earn the honor on Sept. 30, 2025 and the first Ohio State offensive player to get the honor since quarterback C.J. Stroud on Nov. 20, 2021.
In addition to earning Maxwell and Walter Camp honors, Smith was also named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week while also named the AP National Player of the Week.
Smith led the Buckeyes to their 11th straight victory at Ohio Stadium as Ohio State grabbed a 42-19 Big Ten opening victory over Illinois. The Buckeyes have now won 10-straight games against the Illini, retaining the Illibuck Trophy since 2008.
In Saturday's game vs. Illinois, Smith finished the game with new career highs – 12 receptions for 217 yards and four touchdowns, tying the program record for touchdown receptions in a game. Smith's 123 receiving yards in the first quarter was the most by any player in a Big Ten game over the last 20 seasons.
Smith — who had eight catches for 150 yards and three TDs in the first half vs. Illinois — also became the third receiver since 2015 from a Power Four conference to have at least three games with at least 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns in one half. DeVonta Smith had four at Alabama and Ja'Marr Chase did it three times at LSU.
With the performance, Smith now leads the nation with 617 receiving yards this season, is tied for the nation's lead with seven touchdown receptions and ranks fourth nationally with 33 receptions.
Smith is the sixth Buckeye in program history to record 200 or more receiving yards in a game, doing so on Saturday with a career-high 217 receiving yards:
