How it Happened
- The first half was a tale of two quarters. Iowa had the edge in the opening quarter, scoring the first goal of the game at 5:17 and outshooting the Buckeyes, 3-0, for the 1-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
- Ohio State was quick to respond in the second frame, scoring two goals in five minutes to take a 2-1 lead over the Hawkeyes. The Buckeye outshot the Hawkeyes, 11-1, in the second to take the one-goal advantage into the half.
- The team's first goal was tallied by Phillippa Jowett just 18 seconds into the quarter. She intercepted a Hawkeye pass inside the 23-meter line and took the ball herself into the circle. Jowett sent a shot from the top of the circle over Iowa's goalie and into the cage to tie the game.
- Less than four minutes later, Anne Marie Krebs carried the ball into the circle and sent a shot toward cage. The shot was saved but Lea DeWan was there to knock the rebound it into the cage for the Ohio State lead at 19:17.
- Iowa answered in the second half with two goals to take back the lead. The Hawkeyes tied the game at 35:58 to tie the game in the third quarter and tallied the game-winning goal at 49:53 to take the lead back with just over 10 minutes to play in the game.
- Ohio State pulled goalkeeper Avery Alleva with five minutes to play in the game for an extra field player but couldn't net the equalizer.
