With the conclusion of the 2026 US Open on Sunday, the Buckeyes saw a nation leading seven current and former athletes compete in the event.
FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – The Ohio State men's tennis team entered the US Open with seven Buckeyes competing across the singles and doubles main draws.
Four players were former student athletes at Ohio State, including J.J. Wolf who competed in singles, with JJ Tracy, Robert Cash, and Matej Vocel competed in doubles.
Three current Buckeyes also participated in doubles main draw, including Bryce Nakashima who was partnered with his brother in the tournament, and the duo of Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico.
Doubles
Carpico and Filin clinched a spot in the doubles' main draw of the US Open as American Wildcards after winning the 2026 American Collegiate Player Wildcard Playoffs. The two secured their title in a two-set victory over Indiana's Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu.
In the grand slam event, Filin and Carpico went 2-1, making it to the third round of the competition. Carpico and Filin were the only two current college tennis players to reach the final 16 teams in the tournament. To be one of the last 16 teams competing, they first had to defeat the No. 8 seed competition of Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos. The pair had to fight their way back from being down a set in all three of their matches before finally falling to the three-time US Open Doubles champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury.
Cash and Tracy made a return to the US Open doubles this year, but with different partners. Tracy teamed up with Francisco Cabral to make it to the third round of the tournament. The pairing was named the No. 16 seed in the tournament and eventually fell in straight sets to the No. 1 pairing in the world, Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten. Cash paired off with Alexander Erler, with the two making it to the second round before falling to the 13 seeded Lucas Miedler and Marc Polmans.
Nakashima and Vocel both had first round exits in the tournament. Nakashima and his brother, Brandon, faced Miedler and Polmans, while Vocel and his partner Jakub Paul fell to the 12 seed pairing of Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
Singles
Wolf was the only Buckeye to compete in the singles main draw of the US Open. He faced off against the 15 seeded Alexander Bublik in the first round, where he played four sets against the No. 16 player in the world. Despite winning the third set 6-3, Bublik was able to close out the match in the fourth set to end Wolf's time at the US Open.
