Junior defender helped Buckeyes to a pair of shutouts
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Martin Wurschmidt, a junior defender from Stavern, Norway, was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.Â
Wurschmidt helped the No. 22 Buckeyes to shutout wins over Virginia Tech (1-0) and DePaul (6-0) to open the 2026 season.Â
Ohio State allowed just nine shots in the two wins with just three on goal.Â
Against the Blue Demons, Wurschmidt scored Ohio State's first goal on a free kick to get the offense kickstarted early in the first half.Â
The Buckeyes return to action Friday in the final Wolstein Week match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Ohio State takes on visiting Memphis at 8 p.m. to complete the event. Â
