Filin Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Buckeyes play host to No. 1 Virginia Saturday
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Nikita Filin was named the Big Ten Player of the Week Wednesday after helping the Buckeyes to wins over then No. 5 Texas (4-1) and No. 1 Wake Forest (4-0) last weekend at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.Â
Ohio State moved to No. 2 in the ITA Men's Tennis Feb. 4 rankings earlier Wednesday with Filin and partner Brandon Carpico moving to No. 1 in the doubles rankings. The Buckeyes will face No. 1 Virginia at home Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last week, Filin was part of four wins to help move the Buckeyes to 6-0 on the year.Â
In doubles, Filin/Carpico defeated Sebastian Gorzny and Lucas Marionneau of Texas, 6-3 and then Kacper Szymkowiak and Aryan Shah of Wake Forest, 6-1. The Buckeyes won the doubles point in both matches.
In singles, Filin clinched both matches against the Longhorns and Demon Deacons.Â
Playing at No. 5 singles against Texas, Filin defeated Johah Braswell, 6-1, 6-3 and then got the win at No. 6 singles against Wake Forest over Joaquin Guilleme, 7-6, 6-4.Â
