Ohio State sending five to U23 World Championships
The Buckeye contingent extends beyond the U.S. border as Ohio State wrestlers Kade and Karson Brown will represent Canada at the championships. The Brown brothers are among Canada's top young freestyle talents and will provide Ohio State representation on the international stage from both sides of the North American border.
Veteran Buckeyes, Ben Davino, Seth Shumate and Ryder Rogotzke, will wear the red, white and blue for the United States. Together, the quintet gives Ohio State a prominent presence at one of the most important age-group events on the international wrestling calendar.
Leading the way for Team USA is Davino, who will compete at 61 kilograms. Davino earned his spot on the American squad after continuing his rise as one of the nation's top young lightweights. The Illinois native enters a weight class loaded with international talent, but he has consistently shown the offensive firepower and composure needed to challenge the world's best.
At 92 kilograms, Shumate will represent the United States in one of the tournament's toughest upper-weight divisions.
The international field will feature proven competitors from wrestling powerhouses around the globe, but Shumate has positioned himself as a legitimate medal contender. Competing in his home state region with Team USA behind him, Shumate will be among the Americans to watch.
Rogotzke heads to the 2026 Galaxy U23 World Championships as the United States' representative at 97 kg in Greco-Roman wrestling. Recently added to Team USA after earning the replacement position through national-team procedures, Rogotzke brings valuable international experience to the mat. He is a two-time age-group World Team member, having competed at the U17 and U20 World Championships, and placed third at this year's Senior World Team Trials.
Karson Brown is entered at 65 kilograms, a weight class that annually produces some of the tournament's most exciting action. The Canadian has established himself as one of his country's top young freestyle wrestlers and will have the opportunity to test himself against a world-class field that includes competitors from the United States, Iran, Russia, Japan and other international powers.
His brother, Kade Brown, will take the mat at 70 kilograms for Canada. Like Karson, Kade arrives in Las Vegas as one of Canada's premier age-group talents. The 70-kilogram bracket is expected to be deep, requiring consistency over multiple matches to reach the podium. Brown's offensive style and international experience give him the tools to make a significant run in the tournament.
For Ohio State, the championships provide another reminder of the program's growing global footprint. Davino and Shumate enter as American medal hopefuls, while the Brown brothers strengthen the Buckeyes' international presence as future members of the program.
