10/6/2026 11:21:00 AM | Football
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week four of the 2026 NFL season featured breakout performances from Buckeyes across the league, highlighted by rookies Arvell Reese and Carnell Tate, while Chris Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba continued strong starts to their seasons.
Reese Continues Strong Rookie Campaign
Rookie linebacker Arvell Reese continues his strong start with the New York Giants, recording nine solo tackles, three pass deflections and his first career interception in a 36-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
This week, Reese contributed to both the pass and run games. In addition to consistently tackling the ball carrier, the Buckeye made plays dropping into coverage. The rookie linebacker earned an overall PFF grade of 90.5, while also being chosen as PFF's defensive player of the week.
Tate Breaks Out for Tennessee
Rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate delivered the best performance of his rookie season with the Tennessee Titans, hauling in nine receptions for 145 receiving yards in a 24-18 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Tate's 145 receiving yards was the fourth-most amongst NFL receivers in week four and the most by a Titans rookie since A.J. Brown recorded 153 yards in 2019.
Tate surpassed his total receiving yards in one afternoon compared to the first three games of the season. The Buckeye was targeted 12 times and accounted for almost 70 percent of Tennessee's receiving yards. Through the first four games of the season, the No. 4 overall pick has 268 receiving yards on 22 receptions, ranking him 12th among qualified NFL receivers per PFF.
Olave and Smith-Njigba Get Hot Starts to 2026 NFL Seasons
Ohio State receivers Chris Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba continued to produce early in the 2026 NFL season.
Olave led the way with eight receptions for 116 yards in the New Orleans Saints' 45-22 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. His performance was highlighted by a 44-yard-long reception, making his third 100-plus-yard outing through the first four games of the season. Olave has 491 receiving yards on 35 receptions and a touchdown. Olave is currently averaging 120 receiving yards per game.
Smith-Njigba added five receptions for 76 yards in Seattle's 30-23 win over the Chargers. Although it marked his lowest receiving total of the season, the Buckeye has remained a consistent part of the Seahawks' passing offense, totaling 32 receptions for 481 yards and six touchdowns through four games.
