COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With current Buckeye standout Isaiah Chisolm earning a place on the 2026 Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List, Ohio State is once again represented among the nation's elite players competing for college soccer's highest individual honor. Chisolm, a senior forward from Yorktown, Virginia., is one of just 30 players nationally selected to the midseason list and one of only a handful from the Big Ten Conference.
The Buckeyes' connection to the Hermann Trophy includes one of the most recognizable figures in the program's history: Brian Maisonneuve. Long before becoming Ohio State's head coach, Maisonneuve established himself as one of the country's top collegiate players at Indiana University, earning the Hermann Trophy in 1994. He went on to play eight seasons with the Columbus Crew, represented the United States Men's National Team, and eventually returned to the college game as a coach.
Ohio State's strongest connection to the award came in 2024 when former Buckeye Michael Adedokun captured the Hermann Trophy, becoming the first player in program history to win college soccer's most prestigious individual honor. His selection elevated Ohio State's profile nationally and further established the Buckeyes as a destination for elite talent. Ohio State advanced to play in the 2024 College Cup behind Adedokun's extraordinary campaign.
The senior midfielder from Eruwa, Nigeria, led both the Buckeyes and the Big Ten with 33 points, scoring 11 goals and adding 11 assists while helping Ohio State post a 16-2-4 record, win the Big Ten Tournament and advance to the NCAA College Cup semifinals. Adedokun was named the 2024 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and earned First Team All-America honors before becoming the first player in program history to win the MAC Hermann Trophy
Now, Chisolm is writing his own chapter in that history. Through nine matches, the senior has emerged as one of the nation's most dangerous attacking players, scoring seven goals and totaling 14 points while helping lead Ohio State's offense. His season has included a hat trick against Northern Kentucky, a two-goal performance against DePaul and three game-winning goals.
