How it Happened
- In just 14 minutes of game two between Ohio State and Wisconsin had already outscored game one.
- Wisconsin was first to score for the second time on the weekend, lighting the lamp early with a goal 34 seconds into the game.
- The special teams success continued Saturday for the Buckeyes as Sanni Vanhanen scored on Ohio State's first power play opportunity of the day at 7:38 to tie the game at one. Vanhanen put a shot from the top of the slot over the glove of Wisconsin netminder Ava McNaughton for her first power play goal of the year. Mira Jungåker and Kassidy Carmichael earned the assists.
- Twenty-five seconds later, the Buckeyes took the lead off a goal from Kaia Malachino. A shot from the point resulted in chaos in front of the net and Malachino was there to knock the puck out of the air and into the Wisconsin goal.
- Ohio State's second power play opportunity resulted in another goal as Kate Viel tallied the team's third straight goal at 13:52. She capitalized on another rebound, this time shooting the puck from the faceoff circle past an outstretched McNaughton.
- Wisconsin quickly answered the Buckeyes' goal with one of their own at 14:03 to end the Buckeye' scoring run.
- By the end of the first, Ohio State scored three goals on 12 shots and Ohio State goaltender Rowan Houweling had faced seven shots with five saves.
- The scoring slowed down in the second, with the Badgers recording the lone goal of the period at 3:00 on the power play to tie the game. Wisconsin outshot the Buckeyes, 12-5, in the middle frame. Houweling made 11 stops to keep the Badgers from taking back the lead.
- Ohio State responded immediately in the third period, winning the opening faceoff and scoring 10 seconds into play. Wisconsin turned the puck over behind its net and Joy Dunne was there to collect. She found Hilda Svensson at the top of the crease and Svensson's shot trickled past the goal line for the lead.
- The Buckeyes restored their two-goal lead from the first period at 12:11 in the third. Vanhanen bookended the game with her second goal of the day by redirecting a shot from Jungåker into the Badgers' goal for the 5-3 Ohio State lead.
- Wisconsin pulled McNaughton with 2:23 in an attempt to even the score, but the Buckeyes allowed only two more shots from the Badgers, with one blocked by Sydney Sawyer and the other saved by Houweling. Ohio State kept Wisconsin to only six shots on goal in the third and Houweling stopped each one.
- Ohio State earned its first sweep of Wisconsin since the 2023-24 season. The last sweep for Ohio State in the series against the Badgers was Nov. 17-18, 2023, when the team earned a 3-0 and 2-1 overtime win in Columbus.
- Mira Jungåker led the Buckeyes with three assists on the day. She recorded a helper on both the game-tying and game-winning goals.
- The Buckeyes' five goals against Wisconsin are the most in a game against the Badgers since Jan. 18, 2023 (5-6 OT loss).
- Vanhanen tied her career high with two goals on the day.
- Houweling improved to 4-0-0 on the year with a career-high 22 saves against the Badgers.
