Junior starts spring ranked 14th
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Teah Chavez, a junior on the Ohio State women's tennis team, has been selected a Big Ten Player to Watch entering the spring campaign, the Big Ten Conference announced Monday.Â
Chavez, from Regina, Saskatchewan, was ranked 14th in singles following the fall season. She made a run to the semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships to clinch an NCAA berth for her first NCAA appearance. She and Luciana Perry are currently ranked 29th in doubles and have been as high as No. 10.Â
In 2024-25, Chavez earned ITA All-America accolades after ending the season ranked 18th in singles. She was a First Team All-Big Ten selection and voted the ITA Midwest Region Most Improved Player.Â
She is 49-27 in her career in singles, with a 39-28 doubles ledger overall.Â
Chavez and the Buckeyes start their spring slate at the Michigan Invitational Jan. 16-18 and then begin dual play hosting ITA Kickoff Weekend matches Jan. 24-25. On Kickoff Weekend, the Buckeyes will take on Iowa in the first round at 10 a.m., followed by a match between UCSB and Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. The winners and losers will meet on day two, with the site champion advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.Â
