Rookie clinched team win in first dual match

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Flora Johnson of the No. 10-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Wednesday.

In her collegiate dual debut, Johnson clinched the Buckeyes' win over Iowa to send Ohio State to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. She posted a 6-0, 6-3 win against Iowa's Sally Xu, securing the fourth point in a 4-0 victory.

Ohio State earned one of 16 spots in the ITA Team Indoor Championship. The opening rounds will be held Feb. 6-8 in Champaign and Evanston, Ill., with Ohio State heading to Champaign. Two teams from each site will advance to the semifinals Feb. 9, with the final Feb. 10. Northwestern will serve as the host for the final two rounds.

Johnson and the Buckeyes return to action at 11 a.m. Sunday when they will take on No. 15 Virginia. Admission and parking are free, with the match in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
