Bernard Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Buckeyes home this weekend against No. 5 Texas and No. 1 Wake Forest
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State senior Alexander Bernard was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.Â
No. 6 Ohio State earned the 2026 ITA Kickoff Weekend title last weekend in Columbus with 4-0 wins over both North Alabama and Purdue.Â
Bernard won in doubles with partner Alex Okonkwo, the No. 10 ranked doubles team nationally, 6-0, against North Alabama to help Ohio State win the doubles point in that match. The pair was leading in their match against Purdue, 4-2, when the Buckeyes clinched the doubles point.Â
In singles, Bernard won his match against Nikola Jovic of Purdue, 6-0, 6-4. Bernard was leading 6-4, 4-3 in his singles match against North Alabama when Ohio State clinched.Â
This weekend, Ohio State plays host to No. 5 Texas (6 p.m.) Friday and then welcome No. 1 Wake Forest Sunday (2 p.m.) at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Admission and parking are free to all home men's tennis matches.Â
