COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's hockey student-athletes Joy Dunne and Hilda Svensson earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week honors for their performances in the team's series sweep of No. 13/14 Minnesota State last weekend in Mankato, Minn., the conference announced Monday.
Dunne is the WCHA Defender of the Week for the second time in as many weeks after playing on the Buckeye blue line for the last two series. Against the Mavericks, Dunne recorded a team-high five goals and six points. She scored four goals in game one, hitting the career-high mark for the second time this season. The junior from O'Fallon, Mo. native added a goal and an assist in game two. She helped the Buckeyes hold Minnesota State to just 16.00 shots on goal per game in the series.
Svensson picked up her second WCHA Rookie of the Week award of the month, and sixth of the season, after a four-point weekend against Minnesota State. She opened the series with three assists in game one and added a power play goal in game two. With a point in each game against the Mavericks, Svensson has extended her point streak to a team and season-best 10 games. The Oskarshamn, Sweden native is the first Buckeye to 40 points this season. She leads the team, and is third nationally, with 42 points in her rookie campaign.
Both Dunne and Svensson will play for their respective national teams at the upcoming Winter Olympics. This year's Olympic games are the first for the duo.
