No. 6 Buckeyes Sweep Xavier and Toledo in Season Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State opened its 113th season of tennis with a pair of 4-0 victories over Xavier and Toledo Sunday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

This was the 41st-consecutive win against Toledo and the Buckeyes are now 23-0 all-time against Xavier.

Alex Okonkwo led the way with three combined wins on the day while Bryce Nakashima, Jack Anthrop and Alexander Bernard collected a pair of victories.

The Buckeyes will host the ITA Kickoff Weekend next weekend for the 16th time. Ohio State holds a record of 31-1 on kickoff weekend matches and will be welcoming Old Dominion, North Alabama and Purdue.

Doubles

The Buckeyes went up early after winning the doubles point against Toledo. #10 Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo won, 6-0, followed by a 6-2 win on court two by Aiden Kim and Bryce Nakashima
Ohio State defeated Xavier after a 6-1 victory by Nikita Filin and Preston Stearns on court three.
Bernard and Okonkwo sealed the doubles point against Xavier for their second win of the day, 6-1.

Singles

Loren Byers was dominant in his morning match with Toledo's Pannawat Suttisomboon defeating him on court six 6-2, 6-1.
Jack Anthrop and Bryce Nakashima added the other two singles wins against the Rockets with Nakashima clinching the victory on a 6-0, 6-1 win on court four.
In the afternoon vs. Xavier, Anthrop picked up his second singles win of the day 6-0, 6-1 on court one.
Okonkwo swept Samuel Frizelle 6-0, 6-0.
The clinching point came on court five from Brandon Carpico after winning 6-1, 6-2.
