COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's hockey's Joy Dunne was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defender of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Dunne and the Buckeyes earned the road series sweep of No. 15 St. Cloud State last weekend for the overall season series sweep of the Huskies. Dunne, who is a forward for the Buckeyes, played defense in the series.
She helped the team hold St. Cloud State to just one goal on the weekend in her first games at the blue line for Ohio State. The junior alternate captain tied for a team-best plus-4 on ice in the series. Dunne was on the ice for five of the team's nine goals of the weekend, including the team's power play goal in game two.
The O'Fallon, Mo. native recorded a goal and an assist in series, assisting the fourth goal of game two and scoring the fifth.
Dunne was recently named to the United State's Olympic women's hockey team and is set to make her Olympic debut February in Milan. She joins teammates Mira Jungaker (SWE), Jenna Raunio (SWE), Hilda Svensson (SWE) and Sanni Vanhanen (FIN) as current players set to play at the Olympics this year. Twelve total Buckeyes, current and former, will compete in Milan.
