Get to know more about Jocelyn:
When did you start playing hockey?
I started skating when I was two, but my parents played hockey, so that is what got me into it. I started playing organized games when I was four in my hometown.
Why did you choose Ohio State?
I personally loved Ohio State as soon as I came. The culture of the team, Muzzy as a coach, it was everything I was looking for. And then just the pride that comes with being a Buckeye, you can feel it as soon as you step on campus and that's something I wanted to be a part of.
What makes this program and being a Buckeye special?
I think it's the people and the tradition we have here. The hard work we put in each and every day truly bonds the team and it makes it such a special experience in the end.
What does it mean to you to be captain of this team?
It's an honor and a privilege to be captain, but the whole team is down there leading the team. It's exciting and it's good to know the girls look up to you, but you can't take a day off. You have to be in it every minute just leading by example and showing up for your teammates each and every day.
What is your favorite thing about Ohio State?
I'd be biased and say St. John Arena would be my favorite place on campus, but away from sports, I would say just the campus itself. Walking around in the day or at night, it's just a beautiful place.
What are you majoring in and why did you choose it?
I am a health sciences major with a minor in business. I chose health sciences because I have always been interested in helping people, but also how the body works so I found that was a good balance between the two. I chose my minor in business because I thought it would be good background knowledge to have, so that's what led me in that direction.
How do you manage balancing school and hockey?
I personally like to write everything out ahead of time, but you fall into a really good routine between when your classes are, study time, homework time and then practices and workouts. It's really nice with our team because we train at the same time every day, so you fall into an easy routine, and then it's just working with tutors, academic advisors and finding classes that work. Working ahead is a big thing; you can't leave stuff to the last minute because you never know when you're going to travel and everything so it's just knocking out those assignments.
What number do you wear and why did you choose it?
I wear number 17. Growing up, my dad's favorite number was 17 and both of my brothers wore it in hockey so when it was available, I had to pick it coming in.
What is one thing not a lot of people know about you?
I played the piano growing up and competed in piano competitions. I still play the piano sometimes and when I'm home I'll play some Christmas songs.
