Agnew Named B1G Athlete of the Week
- Graduate student Kevin Agnew was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week after finishing second overall, just a tenth of a second behind the race winner from No. 15-ranked Butler, at the Mike Baumer XC Classic, last Friday.
- Agnew crossed the line in a 5K career-best 14:33.4, passing the 14:54.9 he set in 2023.
- Ohio State will return to East Lansing for the Big Ten Championships Oct. 31.
- The Buckeyes started the season at the Mike Baumer XC Classic hosted by Wright State in Norton, Ohio, last Friday. The women claimed the team title, with the men finishing second behind only No. 15-ranked Butler. Both squads had all five counters finish in the Top 10, led by second place finishes for Mia Robillard for the women and Kevin Agnew for the men.
- Eight total freshmen made their collegiate debuts last week – Sydney Stevenson, Allie Kopser, Chloe Dostal, Layla Jordan and Olivia Holbrook for the women and Chance Basilone, Andrew Rhode and Zach Zielke for the men, along with sophomore Colin Cernansky of the men's team.
- All returning Buckeyes who raced last week ran their personal Ohio State best for a 5K.
- In the Great Lakes Region rankings to start the season, the Buckeye women were seventh. Big Ten schools Wisconsin (No. 2), Michigan State (No. 3) and Michigan (No. 4) were in the Top 5 behind No. 1 Notre Dame.
- In the men's regional rankings, the Buckeyes were seventh. B1G school Wisconsin was No. 1, with Michigan State No. 4, Michigan No. 5 and Purdue No. 6 ahead of the Buckeyes.Â
- The Buckeyes have two regular season meets remaining - at Missouri Sept. 26 and at Texas A&M Oct. 17.
- Michigan State will host the Big Ten Championships Oct. 3.
- The NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships will be held in Evansville, Ind., Nov. 14 and the NCAA Championships will be in Columbia, Mo., Nov. 22.
