COLUMBUS, Ohio – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) announced Thursday its 2025 All-America teams and player of the year awardees and six Ohio State men's lacrosse players were recognized.
Caleb Fyock and Bobby Van Buren were named First Team All-Americans and Cullen Brown, Blake Eiland, Alex Marinier and Gannon Matthews earned the honorable mention nod. The team's six USILA All-America honors are a single season record.
Fyock was also named the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie and Van Buren the William C. Schmeisser Co Defensive Player of the Year. The awards are the first USILA player of the year honors for a Buckeye player.
"This year was a historic season for Buckeye Lacrosse and today's announcement is a testament to that," head coach Nick Myers said. "Six players receiving All-America awards, including two positional players of the year, is a great honor for this program. I'm proud of these men and the seasons they had, but individual honors are also a reflection of team success and I'm proud of our entire group and what it was able to accomplish as a unit this year. This season has set a new standard of excellence for Buckeye Lacrosse and we're excited to continue building off it."
The Buckeyes have two USILA First Team All-Americans in a single season for the first time in program history. Fyock is the team's first goaltender to receive the distinction and Van Buren becomes the second defenseman to earn the nod. The pair are the team's first First Team All-Americans since 2018 and become just the second and third Buckeyes be awarded the honor.
Fyock finished the season with a .612 save percentage and an 8.08 goals against average. His save percentage, which leads the country in 2025, is the best for a Buckeye goalie this century. During his sophomore campaign, which included earning Tewaaraton Award nominee and Big Ten Specialist of the Year honors, he held opponents to under 10 goals in 12 games. He reached his career high of 19 saves in a game twice this season, including in the Big Ten Tournament championship game win over Maryland. The Bowie, Md. native was also named First Team All-Big Ten and the 2025 Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Van Buren, the team's most veteran player at close defense this year, led the Buckeyes to a top 10 scoring defense in 2025. The senior captain from Wingate, N.C. picked up 24 ground balls on the year and caused 16 turnovers while drawing the game's top matchup. After being sidelined for most of the 2024 season because of injury, Van Buren returned to help the team to just the fifth 14-win season in program history and bring the team back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022. He earned his second career First Team All-Big Ten nod this season and was also a Tewaaraton Award nominee. Van Buren will return for a fifth season.
Brown, a starting close defenseman for the Buckeyes in 2025, ended his junior season with a program-record 34 caused turnovers. He led non-faceoff players on the team with 60 ground balls on the year. Brown tied his career-high four caused turnovers in a game with four in the win over Penn State to open the conference season, which ended in the Buckeyes winning the program's first Big Ten regular season title.
Eiland, another piece of Ohio State's defensive unit, was on the first line of short stick defensive midfielders. He had 17 ground balls, six caused turnovers, two goals and an assist in his junior season. He tallied a goal against Virginia to help the then-unranked Buckeyes defeat then-ranked No.12 Virginia for the first of seven wins over ranked teams in 2025. The Delaware, Ohio native added two caused turnovers in the team's regular season win over then-ranked No. 2 Notre Dame to help the team finish the season unbeaten on the road.
Marinier finished his Buckeye career with 50 goals in his senior season. He is just the third player in program history to hit the mark and the first since 1981. He ended the year as the team's top point producer for the second season in a row with 52 points. The First Team All-Big Ten honoree's final season included at least a goal in all but two games, 13 multi-goal games and 10 hat tricks. His seven goals against Air Force tied for the fourth-most goals scored in a game by a Buckeye and the most since 2019.
Matthews's senior season ended with 18 goals, seven assists and eight ground balls. A starting midfielder for the Buckeyes, Matthews tallied two hat tricks, including three goals in the regular season finale win over Michigan to bring the Creators' Trophy back to Columbus and the Big Ten Tournament semifinal win over Rutgers. He scored the team's first goal in the conference tournament championship game and went on to add an assist as the team took home its first Big Ten Tournament title.
