Buckeyes Complete Perfect B1G Season, Beat Purdue 4-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 4 Ohio State completed an undefeated Big Ten season on Sunday by beating Purdue 4-2 on a sunny afternoon at the Auer Tennis Complex.
The Buckeyes finished 13-0 in Big Ten play and are now 24-2 overall on the season.
Playing outside at home for the first time this season, the Buckeyes had to grind. Purdue won the doubles point and had a little momentum early in singles. But the Buckeyes dug in and flexed their muscle.
This was the 100th overall meeting between Ohio State and Purdue. Ohio State leads the all-time series 81-19 and has won 28 consecutive matches against the Boilermakers.
Doubles
- Purdue claimed the first doubles win with a 6-1 win on court three.
- On court one, the Buckeyes got a 6-3 victory from Aidan Kim and Will Jansen. The Buckeye duo broke at 4-3 with some nice play at the net and the Kim ended the match with an ace.
- Purdue then won the doubles point with a 7-5 win on court two.
Singles
- Alexander Bernard shook off the doubles loss and dominated Juan David Velasquez 6-2, 6-1 on court two to even the team match at 1-1.
- Purdue then made it 2-1 with a win on court one.
- The second Buckeyes win came from Bryce Nakashima on court six as he rolled past Stefan Simeunovic 6-3, 6-2. He has not lost a singles match during the dual season.
- Chris Li followed not long after with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nour Fathalla on court five and the Buckeyes were just a point away.
- After dropping the first set 6-3 to Henrik Villanger on court three, Jack Anthrop bounced back and was unstoppable the rest of the way. He won the second set 6-1 and took the third set 6-0 to clinch the team match.

Ohio State will be the No. 1 seed and will host next week’s Big Ten Tournament at the Auer Tennis Complex. The Buckeyes will open the tournament in quarterfinals at 9 a.m. on Friday morning.
