BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana went on a 12-0 run late in the second half and used the home crowd’s energy to pull out a hard-fought 66-60 victory over Ohio State on Saturday in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Buckeyes are now 17-14 overall and finish conference play at 9-11.
Fifth-year guard Micah Parrish led the Buckeyes with 19 points, three steals and a pair of blocks. Devin Royal finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Bruce Thornton had nine points, four assists and two steals.
Ohio State shot 38 percent for the game and had just one field goal in the final 5:55 of the second half. Indiana used that time to go on a 12-0 run and turned a five-point deficit into a seven-point lead. The Hoosiers made enough of their free throws down the stretch to keep the Buckeyes at arm’s length.
The Buckeyes led by as many as nine in the opening half as Parrish and John Mobley Jr. each had seven points in the opening 20 minutes. Indiana scored the final four points and cut the OSU lead to 29-25 at the break.
After a Royal jumper and a Ques Glover lay-in, the lead was back to nine at 43-34 with 13 minutes to play, forcing an IU timeout. The lead was 10 after a Royal three but then Indiana went on a 13-3 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 49-49.
The Buckeyes answered with a 7-2 run to take a five-point lead with five minutes to play. But that’s when IU run started, and the Buckeyes didn’t score again until a pair Thornton free throws with just under a minute to play. That run put the Buckeyes in too big of a hole to recover.
