
Carfagna Inks Deal with NHL Edmonton Oilers

Defenseman earned Honorable Mention All-B1G accolades in 2024-25
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Damien Carfagna, who recently concluded his junior season with the Ohio State men's hockey team, has signed a two-year entry level contract with the NHL Edmonton Oilers that starts in the 2025-26 season, the organization announced Monday.Â
The blueliner earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors this year and a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. He skated in 38 of 40 games, missing two with injury, and had seven goals, 21 assists and 28 points, leading the Buckeyes with a +16 rating and 68 shot blocks and taking just three minor penalties. He was first among Buckeye defensemen in goals, ranking second in assists and points among blueliners. He ended the season with a point in five of the last seven games, including a goal and an assist in the B1G Tournament final, and was +1 or better in the last five outings.
In his three-year collegiate career, which included one season at New Hampshire and two at Ohio State, Carfagna, a native of Wood-Ridge, N.J., saw action in 107 games, with 15 goals and 35 assists for 50 points.Â
This season, Carfagna helped lead the Buckeyes to 24 wins, a third-place finish in the Big Ten standings, the Big Ten Tournament championship game and an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Carfagna is slated to earn his bachelor's degree in sport industry this spring.
