LINCOLN, Neb. – Micah Parrish scored a career-high 30 points and John Mobley Jr. made five three-pointers but Nebraska used a second half run to build a lead and hold on for a 79-71 victory on Sunday afternoon in Lincoln.
The loss drops the Buckeyes to 14-10 on the year and 6-7 in Big Ten play.
Parrish was aggressive right from the start. He scored 14 in the first half and ended the game 11-of-21 from the floor and 5-of-12 from long range. His previous career-high was the 22-point effort in the win at Purdue last month.
Mobley Jr. was 5-of-10 from distance and finished with 21 points. Bruce Thornton, coming off a 31-point night against Maryland, was mostly held in check, scoring nine points while dishing out a game-high five assists.
Evan Mahaffey played 23 minutes in place of an injured Devin Royal and had five points and five rebounds.
Nebraska started out hot from the field but the Buckeyes weathered the storm and used a 7-0 run to build a 32-29 lead with four minutes remaining in the half. They would hold the hold and take a 39-34 advantage into the break. Both teams shot well in the first half as Nebraska was 51.9 percent and the Buckeyes were at 48.4 percent.
Parrish opened the second half with a three-pointer to give the Buckeyes their largest lead of the game 42-34. He then made three consecutive lay-ups to keep the Buckeyes in front 48-44 but then Nebraska went on an 11-0 run over the next five minutes to grab a 55-48 advantage.
Back-to-back threes from Parrish and Mobley Jr. cut the lead to two. After another Mobley Jr. three, Rollie Worster hit a three from the wing with 3:30 to play that gave the Huskers a ton of momentum that they rode to the victory in the minutes.
