Men sweep trophies, women claim team and foil crowns
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's fencing teams both claimed 2024 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference championships Saturday in Detroit. The men captured their fifth team title in a row with a 4-0 record and the women won their fourth crown and third outright since the league's inaugural season in 2021 with a 6-0 mark.
The men won all three weapon championships for the second year in a row. Men's foil and epee are the outright champs for the fourth consecutive year and shared the title in 2021, while sabre won its fourth crown (2021, 2022, 2024, 2025). The women captured the foil crown for the fourth straight year. The women were second in sabre and third in epee.
Sunday will be the CCFC individual championships, with live results HERE. The women's competition will start at 8 a.m., with the men slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. Wayne State is the tournament host, with competition in the Wayne State Fieldhouse.
The Buckeye Men
The men downed Detroit Mercy 26-1, Cleveland State 22-5, Wayne State 23-5 and Lawrence 19-8 to sweep the day. All three weapon squads were undefeated as well.
Epeeist Gabriel Feinberg was 8-2 to lead the Buckeye men in wins on the day. Miles Weiss and Viktor Kulcsar were both 6-1 in men's epee. In men's foil, Lorenzo Mion led the way with a 6-0 mark, followed by Isaac Ariza and Mitchell Huth who were both 4-0. In men's sabre, Samuel Rightler was 6-1 and Nolan Williams was 5-1.
The Buckeye Women
The Buckeyes opened the day with 25-2 wins over Detroit Mercy and Cleveland State. After a 19-8 win over Wayne State, Ohio State topped Denison 20-7 and Lawrence 26-1. The final team match saw Ohio State and Northwestern both enter 5-0 on the day to battle for the first place trophy. The Wildcats took sabre and epee by slim 5-4 margins and a 6-3 win in foil lifted the Buckeyes to a 14-13 win and the team title.
The foil squad was 6-0, with sabre 5-1 and epee 4-2.
Individually, Clare Teresa Galavotti led women's foil and the women with a 9-2 ledger. Alina Lee was 7-0 in foil, with Dasha Myroniuk 6-1. In women's epee, Gloria Klughardt (8-2), Marie-Frederique Millette (8-4) and Julia Semikin (8-5) each had eight wins. For the women's sabre squad, Natalia Botello was 8-1, Katherine Larimer was 8-2 on the day and Arlow Wiggers was 7-5.

The NCAA Midwest Regionals will be hosted by Denison in Granville, Ohio, March 8. The 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships will be held March 20-23 in University Park, Pa., hosted by Penn State.
