COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeyes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. 'Buckeye Spotlight' recognizes Buckeye student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Brandon Carpico & Nikita Filin | Men's Tennis | R-Fr. & Fr. | Gahanna, Ohio & Glenview, Ill.
- Freshmen Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin combined to go 3-0 as a doubles team last week at the ITA Indoor Team National Championship in Waco.
- The duo beat teams from UCF and Columbia on the first two days and then bested the Baylor duo of Zsombor Velcz and Alexandru Chirita for the second time in a week.
- Together on the year, Carpico and Filin are 10-2, including 7-1 in dual team matches.
Kary Hollenbaugh | Women's Golf | Jr. | New Albany, Ohio
- Kary Hollenbaugh successfully defended her title at the Spartan Suncoast Invitational, placing first with a 54-hole score of 207 (-9).
- Hollenbaugh shot a three-under 69 in all three rounds.
- She has shot six straight rounds in the 60s to open the spring season and this is her second straight tournament win; she also claimed the title at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge earlier this month.
Ibrahim Khairat | Men's Track & Field – Jumps | Sr. | Ellicott, Md.
- Ibrahim Khairat competed in the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational where he set a personal record for triple jump with a best mark of 14.98m/49-04.50.
- His previous personal best for the event came at the Hoosier Horsepower Invitational earlier this season where he placed second with a distance of 14.16m/46-05.50.
Alex Marinier | Men's Lacrosse | Sr. | Burlington, Ontario
- Alex Marinier scored a career-high seven goals in the 17-11 win over Air Force last Saturday. He had a first quarter hat trick and five goals by the end of the first half.
- His seven goals were the most goals scored in a game by a Buckeye since the 2019 season.
- Marinier leads the team, and Big Ten, with 19 goals and points this season.
- Brendan McCrone started the Buckeyes out with an electrifying win at 125 against No. 1 Penn State.
- Down 6-2 after the opening period, No. 21 McCrone locked up a cradle to pin No. 7 Luke Lilledahl of PSU.
- The Buckeyes earned six team points to start the dual before a sellout of 4,494 at Covelli.
- McCrone improved to 19-7 overall with his seventh win by fall this season.
Cotie McMahon | Women's Basketball | Jr. | Dayton, Ohio
- Cotie McMahon became the first Buckeye since Jacy Sheldon in December 2023 to score 25 or more points in back-to-back games this past week. McMahon also became the 29th player in program history to reach 500 career rebounds, doing so on Monday.
- McMahon scored 25 points, added four rebounds and tied her season-high six assists in the Buckeyes' win over Minnesota on Thursday. She shot 10-of-16 (.625) from the floor and scored the first two OSU baskets in overtime.
- In Monday's win against Iowa, McMahon again finished with 25 points, this time adding eight rebounds, a pair of assists and a pair of steals. She scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and overtime combined.
- McMahon was named to the Big Ten weekly honor roll on Monday for the second time this season.
Audrey Spencer | Women's Tennis | So. | Olathe, Kansas
- Audrey Spencer clinched the Buckeyes' 4-3 road win at No. 14 Duke last Friday.
- After dropping the first set, she rallied to take the second, 6-4. The third set went to a tiebreaker, where Spencer prevailed 7-4 to clinch her match and the team win.
- The Buckeyes open a three-match homestand Sunday when they host Oklahoma State.
Janela Spencer | Women's Track & Field – Sprints/Hurdles | Jr. | Mandeville, Jamaica
- At the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational, Janela Spencer finished seventh in the 60m hurdles preliminaries, setting a personal record of 8.15 seconds.
- After qualifying for the 60m hurdles semifinals, Spencer set another personal record of 8.13 seconds which ranks 15th in the nation.
- Prior to this past weekend, her personal best took place at last year's Big Ten Championships where she finished in 8.19 seconds.
Kate Tyack | Women's Lacrosse | So. | Dublin, Ohio
- Kate Tyack matched her career high with four goals in the Buckeyes' 9-6 win over Louisville last Saturday. She had a game-high and career-best nine shots and a ground ball.
- In all, she scored four of the Buckeyes' first six goals. She opened the scoring in the first quarter and put the Buckeyes up 4-2 in the second, 5-3 in the third and 6-4 in the fourth, answering a UofL goal each of the last three times.
- Tyack and the No. 24-ranked Buckeyes hit the road for the first time this season for a game at Vanderbilt Saturday.
Shane Wetzel | Men's Volleyball | Jr. | Lake Mary, Florida
- The Buckeyes earned a pair of wins behind 28 kills from Shane Wetzel.
- In wins at Purdue Fort Wayne (3-0) and home vs. Lindenwood (3-0), he hit .458 overall.
- He also led Buckeyes in digs (11) and aces (6) in the wins.
