Ohio State men 5-0, with women 4-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing program opened competition at the Schiller Duals hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., Saturday. The Buckeye men were 5-0 on the day, improving to 24-5 on the year, and the women were 4-1, moving to 20-7 this season.

The men downed both Air Force and Incarnate Word 20-7, topped Wheaton 26-1, defeated Wayne State 22-5 and ended the day with a 17-10 win over Stanford. The women shut out Wheaton 27-0, topped Detroit Mercy 25-2, were 22-5 winners against Wayne State and clipped Incarnate Word, 14-13, falling to Stanford, 15-12.

For the men, the epee and sabre squads were both 5-0 and foil was 4-1. On the women's side, both foil and epee were 4-1 and sabre was 3-2.

Three epeeists had six wins for the Buckeye women. Lucy Whittemore was 6-3, Julia Simikin had a 6-4 mark and Gloria Klughardt was 6-2. In foil, Claire Teresa Galavotti (4-3), Alina Lee (4-0), Dasha Myroniku (4-1) and Raiyan Moradi-Bidhendi (4-2) each had four wins. Katherine Larimer and Hamsika Arnipalli were each 4-2 in sabre.

On the men's side, Miles Weiss had a team-high nine wins, going 9-2 on the day, and Gabriel Feinberg was 8-1. In foil, Lorenzo Mion posted an 8-2 ledger and Solin Li was undefeated in seven bouts. In sabre, Avin Rai led the way with a 7-1 record, while Nolan Williams and Kelly Liu were both 6-2 and Samuel Rightler was 5-2.
