
Buckeyes Place Second at Raleigh Rumble

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11 Ohio State men's and women's swimming and diving teams placed second at the inaugural Raleigh Rumble, hosted by NC State this weekend. Both Buckeye teams defeated Virginia Tech, with the men winning, 485.5-429, and the women winning, 546-364.5. The men fell to NC State, 790-485.5, and the women fell to NC State, 790-546.
Men's Meet Notes
- Cornelius Jahn placed second in the 200 back with an NCAA standard time of 1:42.03. Krys Gorski finished fourth with a time of 1:43.23.
- Tristan Jankovics took second place in the 200 breast, touching the wall at 1:57.37. Ahmed Ismail (1:59.06) and Luke Vickers (1:59.40) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
- Matt Klinge finished second in the 100 IM with a time of 48.75.
- Mason Edmund earned a second-place finish in the 200 fly, finishing in 1:45.52. Jordi Vilchez (1:47.10) placed sixth.
- Isaac Fleig placed fourth in the 1000 free with a time of 9:08.71.
- The 400 medley relay team of Jahn, Ismail, Klinge and Tomas Navikonis finished third with a time of 3:08.50.
- The Buckeyes swept the day's diving events. Tyler Read won the 1-meter with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 352.75. Dom Roberto (311.30) and Ernest Braitenbach (309.60) also recorded NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
- Braitenbach was the winner of the 3-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 356.25. Matthew Yuan (321.35) also had a qualifying score.
- Navikonis finished fifth in the 100 free with a time of 43.15. Rasmus Hanson placed seventh with a time of 44.08.
- Klinge was the winner of the 100 fly with an NCAA standard time of 45.07. Evan Fentress placed sixth, finishing in 47.72.
- Ismail won the 100 breast, touching the wall at 52.85. Vickers (54.66) placed seventh.
- Jahn took third place in the 100 back with a time of 46.86. Joseph Roth finished fifth with a time of 47.58.
- Jankovics was the winner of the 400 IM with an NCAA standard time of 3:43.29. Vilchez (3:49.92) and Edmund (3:51.21) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
- Jahn (1:36.04), Navikonis (1:36.12) and Alex Axon (1:38.44) finished 5-6-7 in the 200 free.
- The Buckeye relay team of Jahn, Ismail, Klinge and Navikonis placed third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:27.44.
- Vilchez took third place in the 500 free, touching the wall at 4:19.73. Edmund finished seventh with a time of 4:25.44 and Gherman Prudnikau finished eighth with a time of 4:27.26.
- Jankovics earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:45.61.
- The Buckeye relay team of Navikonis, Fentress, Klinge and Ismail placed third in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:54.00.
- In addition to the regular events, there were multiple knockout rounds. Klinge swam a time of 20.26 in the 50 fly semifinals to advance to Saturday's final knockout round and Ismail swam a time of 24.14 in the 50 breast semifinals to clinch a spot in the finals. Klinge won the 50 fly with a time of 20.37. Ismail placed second in the 50 breast with a time of 24.24. Jahn and Roth advanced to the semifinals of the 50 back and Fentress swam in the semifinals of the 50 free.
- There was also an open water event. Fleig placed second, Alex Axon was sixth and Edmund was seventh.
Women's Meet Notes
- The Buckeyes went 1-2 in the 1000 free; Mila Nikanorov placed first with a time of 9:35.62 and Emma Finlin finished second with a time of 9:42.18. Adair Shaw placed fifth with a time of 9:48.43.
- Delia Lloyd placed second in the 200 back with an NCAA standard time of 1:54.41.
- Paige Delma (2:12.94) and Danika Varda (2:13.96) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 breast.
- Rachel Bockrath finished third in the 100 IM, touching the wall at 55.47. Maria Ramos placed fifth with a time of 55.62.
- Jessic Eden earned a third-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.20.
- The 400 medley relay team of Lloyd, Ramos, Carrie Furbee and Bockrath finished second with a time of 3:33.85.
- Lena Hentschel was the winner of both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. She won the 1-meter with a score of 305.10 and the 3-meter with a score of 344.35. Both are NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
- Brooklyn Petit (265.70) recorded an NCAA Zones qualifying score on the 1-meter and, on the 3-meter, Mia Prusiecki (307.45) had a Zones qualifying score.
- The Buckeye divers also won the team event with an overall score of 313.05, beating second-place Virginia Tech by over 50 points.
- Paige Delma finished second in the 400 IM with an NCAA standard time of 4:11.23. Sienna Angove (4:14.55), Shaw (4:16.31) and Eden (4:18.55) placed 6-7-8.
- Bockrath was the winner of the 100 free, turning in an NCAA standard time of 48.09. Erin Little placed fourth with an NCAA standard time of 48.35.
- Lorin Tobler (53.63), Furbee (53.82), KK LeBlance (54.27) and Emmy Therrien (54.98) finished 6-7-8-9 in the 100 fly.
- Delma finished second in the 100 breast with an NCAA standard time of 1:00.28.
- Lloyd placed sixth in the 100 back, finishing in 63.73.
- The Buckeyes went 1-2 in the 500 free. Nikanorov earned the win with an NCAA standard time of 4:42.52 and Shaw placed second with a time of 4:44.47. Finlin came in third with a time of 4:46.34.
- Bockrath placed second in the 200 free, finishing in 1:45.39, which is an NCAA standard time. Angove (1:48.06) and Abigail Perry (1:48.10) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
- The Buckeye relay team of Lloyd, Ramos, Furbee and Bockrath finished third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.80.
- Delma placed fourth in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:00.18. Angove (2:01.85), Eden (2:02.00) and Varda (2:02.64) placed sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
- The Buckeye relay team of Bockrath, Lloyd, LeBlanc and Little placed second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:15.70.
- In addition to the regular events, there were multiple knockout rounds. Ramos swam a time of 27.06 in the 50 breast semifinals to advance to Saturday's knockout finals. In the finals, she finished second with a time of 27.22. Furbee and LeBlanc both advanced to the semifinals in the 50 fly, Lloyd advanced to the semifinals of the 50 back and Bockrath swam in the 50 free semifinals.
- There was also an open water event, and the Buckeyes went 1-2, with Finlin placing first and Nikanorov placing second. Charlotte LePage finished eighth.
- The Buckeyes host the annual Ohio State Fall Invitational at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion Nov. 18-21.
