Eisele scores twice for Ohio State, Gordon picks up two assists
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey lost a second straight game in overtime at Arizona State, with the Sun Devils prevailing 4-3 Saturday in Mullett Arena in Tempe, Ariz.

The Buckeyes (5-9, 1-5 B1G) led the Sun Devils (7-8-1, 3-4-1 NCHC) 3-0 early in the third, but the home team rallied before netting the gamewinner with 19 seconds left.

The Short Story
After a scoreless first period, Ohio State opened the scoring on a Jake Karabela goal with just over five minutes left in the second. Adam Eisele doubled the lead with a goal with less than two seconds remaining and pushed the advantage to 3-0 with his second goal of the game 5:44 into the third. Arizona State went on a three-goal run, tallying at 6:14, 9:04 and 13:12, to tie the game and then won 4:41 into overtime. The Buckeyes were outshot, 42-31, with freshman Sam Hillebrandt making a career-high 38 stops. Ryan Gordon had two assists for the Buckeyes, who were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

The Schedule Ahead
- The first half ends with a home series against Minnesota Thursday-Friday. Faceoff is set for 6:30 p.m. for game one and 6 p.m. for game two and BTN will televise both contests.
- Game one is Peanuts Night and there will be a Peanuts themed Ohio State hockey longsleeve shirt giveaway for the first 500 fans and the first 200 Ohio State students. Â
- Game two against the Gophers is Holidays and Hockey night, with a Buckeye hockey oven mitt giveaway for the first 2,000 fans. The annual Teddy Bear Toss will be held postgame, with fans encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to throw on the ice. The stuffed animals collected will be delivered to Ronald McDonald House in Columbus. There will also be an ugly sweater contest at the game.
- The Buckeyes will then return to action Jan. 2-3 with a home-and-home series against Bowling Green. The teams will meet in Columbus for game one and in Bowling Green for game two.Â

- There were no goals in the first period, with Ohio State outshooting the Sun Devils, 10-9.
- The Buckeyes scored twice in the second for a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes.
- Freshman Jake Karabela opened the scoring at 14:35. A shot from Sam McGinley got through the goaltender and Karabela was there to knock it in for his second goal of the year. Jake Dunlap had the second assist on the goal.
- With time winding down in the period, Adam Eisele put the Buckeyes up 2-0 with just 1.6 seconds left, scoring through traffic from up high, assisted by Ryan Gordon and Nathan McBrayer.
- Buckeye goalie Sam Hillebrandt stopped all 17 shots he faced in the second, with Ohio State putting 12 shots on net. The Buckeye penalty kill was 2-for-2 in the stanza.
- An Eisele power play tally at 5:44 of the third put the Buckeyes up 3-0, scoring from inside the faceoff circle, assisted by Gordon and Max Montes.
- Arizona State got on the board 30 seconds later on a Jack Beck score and drew within one on Joel Kjellberg's tally at 9:04.
- Samuel Alfano's goal at 13:12 that floated up and over the Buckeye goalie tied the game at three.
- The Sun Devils appeared to go ahead 4-3 with 34.1 seconds left in regulation. Ohio State challenged for the puck being played with a high stick before the goal, and the goal was overturned after review.
- The Sun Devils outshot the Buckeyes 13-8 in the third.
- In overtime, Arizona State converted a 2-on-1 for the win with 19 seconds left, with Cullen Potter netting the gamewinner.
- ASU had three shots in OT, Ohio State one.
- For the game, the Buckeyes were outshot, 42-31. Hillebrandt played 64:41 for the Buckeyes and had a career-high 38 saves. ASU's Connor Hasley made 28 stops in 64:41.
- The Buckeyes blocked 20 Sun Devil shot attempts. James Hong was first with four and Ethan Straky had three. ASU had 16 shot blocks.
- Ohio State was 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and 1-for-2 on the power play.

- The Buckeyes have dropped their last five games, with three of the losses in overtime. On the year, the squad has seven one-goal losses, including four in OT.
- Eisele leads the Buckeyes with seven goals and shares the team lead with 11 points. It was his fourth collegiate two-goal game and his second this season.
- Gordon is second on the team with eight assists and has three two-assist games this season and in his career.
- Karabela, who is first on the team with nine assists, shares the team lead with 11 points.
