
No. 1 Ohio State to Big Ten Title Game after 27-9 Win at Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 1 Ohio State (12-0, 9-0) will face No. 2 Indiana (12-0, 9-0) for the 2025 Big Ten Championship next week after a 27-9 win at No. 15 Michigan (9-3, 7-2) Saturday at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Julian Sayin passed for 233 yards on 19-of-26 passing and three scores. Receiver Carnell Tate led with five catches, 82 yards and a touchdown with Jeremiah Smith recording three catches for 40 yards and a score. Bo Jackson added four catches for 49 yards from the backfield. On the ground, Jackson rushed for 117 yards on 22 carries while the Buckeyes totaled 186 yards on the ground. The Ohio State defense held the Wolverines without a touchdown while allowing 163 yards of total offense, including just 63 on the ground. Defensively, Sonny Styles led the Buckeyes with six tackles. Ohio State now sets its sights on the 2025 Big Ten Title game against the Hoosiers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Buckeyes and Indiana kickoff at 6:30 p.m. next Saturday with Fox Sports providing the live national broadcast.
First Quarter
No. 15 Michigan 6, No. 1 Ohio State 3
Ohio State won the pregame coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. Michigan opened with the ball at its 25 after a touchback. The Buckeyes defended the south endzone to open the game. Bryce Underwood took the opening snap at quarterback for the Wolverines and handed to Jordan Marshall for a 36-yard rush over the left side to the OSU39. Marshall then caught an Underwood pass down the middle for 10 to the OSU29. The Ohio State defense allowed just 2 yards on the next two Michigan efforts before calling timeout with the Wolverines facing third-and-8 and 12:45 on the clock. The Buckeyes forced an incompletion after the break before Dominic Zvada entered and delivered a 45-yard field goal for a 3-0 Michigan lead. The drive covered 48 yards on six plays while using 2:23. Julian Sayin took control of the Ohio State offense at the OSU25 after a touchback. After an incompletion, Sayin was intercepted by Jyaire Hill at the OSU38 near the left sideline on a pass intended for Jeremiah Smith. Underwood rushed left for 6 yards on the first play of Michigan’s possession before a Marshall gain of 21 to the OSU11. Michigan gained 4 yards on two short rushes before an incompletion set up fourth-and-6 from the OSU7. Zvada then kicked a 25-yard field goal to make it 6-0 Wolverines with 9:42 left in the opening quarter. The Buckeyes took over at their 25 on the next possession following a touchback. Bo Jackson got the call from his running back possession and rushed up the middle for 5 yards before a Michigan timeout with 9:11 showing on the clock. Jackson rushed again after the break for 3 yards over right tackle to the OSU33. Sayin then connected with Will Kacmarek for a first down near the right sideline for 5 yards to the OSU38. The drive covered 69 yards on 11 plays over 5:09. Jackson added another first down with a 23-yard catch to the UM39. Jackson then added another 36 yards on a rush right to the UM3. C.J. Donaldson Jr. rushed for a loss of 2 after an incompletion. Michigan (Jaishawn Barham) was then called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for making contact with an official giving Ohio State a first down at the UM2. Donaldson gained a yard on the next play before being stopped just shy of the goal line to set up third-and-1. Sayin rushed on the next play up the middle and fought his way in for a score but the play was reviewed and overturned. The Buckeyes then went for it on fourth-and-1 but were called for a false start to move the ball back to the UM6. Jayden Fielding then put the Buckeyes on the board with a 24-yard field goal to make it 6-3 Michigan with 4:33 on the clock. The Wolverines gained 5 yards on a rush before being stopped and forced to punt on the next possession. Brandon Inniss gave the Buckeyes the ball at their 37 after a 15-yard return following a 48-yard punt by Hudson Hollenbeck. On third-and-7, Sayin found Carnell Tate for a gain of 8 and a first down at the OSU48. The quarter ended after Jackson rushed for 3 yards to the UM49.



Second Quarter
No. 1 Ohio State 17, No. 15 Michigan 9
After a short gain on a Jackson rush to open the quarter, Tate got the Buckeyes a first down with an 8-yard gain to the OSU40. Max Klare added a grab for 5 yards before a couple rushes for no gain at the UM35. Facing a fourth-and-5, Sayin threw long to Smith for a 35-yard touchdown down the right sideline for a 10-6 Ohio State lead. The scoring drive covered 63 yards on 10 plays over 5:49. Michigan started from its 16 after a 9-yard return on the next possession. The Wolverines, aided by an Ohio State pass interference penalty, got a first down at the UM37. Michigan moved to the OSU36 on a 5-yard rush and another 22-yard gain by Bryson Kuzdzal. Ohio State allowed a pair of short gains before Underwood found Donaven McCulley for 6 yards and a first down at the OSU26. The Buckeyes moved the Wolverines back to the OSU30 after Kuzdzal lost 5 yards on the rush to the right. The Buckeyes stopped Michigan on the next play setting up a 49-yard Zvada field goal to make it 10-9 Buckeyes with 5:22 left in the half. An Inniss fair catch put the ball at the OSU25 to start Ohio State’s next possession. Ohio State was called for an unsportsmanlike to move the ball back at the OSU13. Sayin then hit Tate for 9 yards and Kacmarek for 25 for a first down at the OSU45. Jackson rushed for 16 on the next play for a first down at the UM37. After an incompletion, Jackson caught a short pass for 5 yards to the UM42. Inniss then got a first down on an 8-yard catch over the middle at the UM26. The Wolverines called timeout with 2:03 on the clock. Jackson rushed for 9 yards after the break to the UM15 to lead to the two-minute timeout with Ohio State facing a second-and-1. It was Jackson again with a 4-yard gain after the stoppage. He then carried for 8 more for a to the UM3. The Buckeyes called a timeout with 19 seconds on the clock after a loss of 1 on a Jackson carry. Back and facing a third-and-3 at the UM4, Sayin hit Innis for a 4-yard touchdown right over the middle. The score sent the Buckeyes to the locker room with a 17-9 lead at the half. The drive covered 87 yards on 11 plays over 5:08.



Third Quarter
No. 1 Ohio State 24, No. 15 Michigan 9
The Buckeyes started the second half with the ball at their 21 after a Lorenzo Styles Jr. return of 16 yards. The Buckeyes opened with a pair of 4-yard gains to Smith through the air and then by Jackson with a rush. Jackson added 3 more for a first down at the OSU33. Sayin hit Jackson for another first down and a gain of 12 to the OSU47. The Buckeyes faced a third-and-8 at their 49 before a Klare catch for 6 yards to the UM46. Ohio State then punted it away, a 45-yard Joe McGuire effort for a touchback. From its 20, Michigan opened with a 26-yard Underwood to McCulley connection to the UM44. The Wolverines were stopped for no gain on the next three plays to give the ball back to the Buckeyes at their 43 after an 11-yard Hollenbeck punt. Sayin and Tate hooked up for 7 yards to the 50 to start the next Ohio State drive. On the next play, Tate found the endzone on a 50-yard catch right down the middle for a 24-9 Ohio State lead with 7:35 left in the quarter. Another touchback gave Michigan a start at its 25. After a play for no gain, Underwood found McCulley for a 14-yard gain to the UM30. The Buckeyes allowed 2 yards on the next two plays before a pass interference penalty on the Buckeyes gave the Wolverines a first down at the OSU44. Michigan lost 2 yards on the next three plays and punted it away, a 32-yard Hollenbeck effort that was fair caught by Inniss at the OSU14. With snow beginning to accumulate at Michigan Stadium, Donaldson started Ohio State’s next drive with an 8-yard run up the middle. Isaiah West got the first down on the next play with a 2-yard gain to the OSU24. The Buckeyes stayed on the ground with gains of 2 by Jackson and another 6 yards to the right by Donaldson. Sayin then got the first down with a short rush up the middle to the OSU34. A Donaldson run for 7 and an incompletion led to a third-and-3 from the OSU41. Sayin again kept it for a 3-yard gain to the right for a first down. The quarter ended after Michigan stopped Donaldson for a loss of 1 at the OSU43.



Fourth Quarter
No. 1 Ohio State 27, No. 15 Michigan 9
Klare opened the final quarter with a 9-yard catch followed by a Jackson 13-yard rush to the left side for a first down at the UM35. West lost a yard before taking the ball up the middle for 14 yards to the UM22. Jackson carried next for 9 to the UM13. Two plays later Sayin got another first down with a 2-yard gain up the middle. Donaldson added 6 more on two carries to the UM5. After an incompletion on third down, Fielding came on and converted a 23-yard field goal for a 27-9 lead with 8:10 to go. The Buckeyes ran 20 plays and covered 81 yards while using 11:56 on the scoring drive. Kenyatta Jackson sacked Underwood for a loss of 8 on Michigan’s next possession to help force a Wolverines punt. Inniss returned a 54-yard Hollenbeck punt 19 yards to the OSU46. The Buckeyes were called for holding during the return to move the ball back to the OSU29. Ohio State stayed on the ground for three rushes for 9 yards to the OSU38. Ohio State called timeout on fourth down just shy of a first down. The Buckeyes went for it and gained 3 on a Donaldson rush. Michigan called three timeouts with the final with 3:13 on the clock and the Buckeyes facing fourth-and-5 from its 46. McGuire came in and delivered a 29-yard punt to the UM25. The Wolverines gained 5 yards before Underwood was intercepted by Davison Igbinosun at the UM37. After an Ohio State unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Ohio State started from its 48 with 2:33 left. The Buckeyes then ran out the clock to secure the 27-9 win.
