COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 2 Ohio State (6-0) opened the home portion of the 2025-26 dual season Thursday at the Covelli Center with a 44-0 win against intrastate foe Kent State (1-2)Â
Earlier in the day, redshirt freshman Ben Davino was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after going 4-0 at the 2025 National Duals Invitational and helping the Buckeyes win the event title. Davino posted a pair of wins by technical fall with another by major decision. He also defeated No. 2 Drake Ayala of Iowa in the championship dual, 10-4. USA Wrestling also named Davino its national athlete of the week for his efforts in Tulsa.Â
125 - Brendan McCrone (OSU) def. Nico Calello (KSU), MD, 9-0
McCrone scored a late takedown at the end of the first for a 3-0 lead after three minutes. He added an early takedown in the second and built riding time to nearly two minutes to go to the third up 6-0. McCrone scored a reversal for an 8-0 lead to win the bout by major decision, 9-0, after a point was added for riding time.Â
133 - (2) Ben Davino (OSU) def. Nick Molchak (KSU), TF, 20-4
Davino jumped to a 6-2 lead after a couple takedowns. The opening period ended with Davino leading 12-3. An escape to open the second made it 13-3 before another two takedowns ended the match 19-4 for a win by major decision.Â
141 - (1) Jesse Mendez (OSU) def. Ismael Ayoub (KSU), F, 1:18
Mendez opened with a takedown in under a minute of action and added another two before a pin at 1:18 for six team points for the Buckeyes.Â
149 -Maddox Shaw (OSU) def. Nate Roth (KSU), SV-1, 4-1
There was no scoring in the opening period. Roth put the first points on the board with an escape early in the second. Trailing 1-0, Shaw chose bottom to open the third and escaped to tie it at 1-all. The match then went to sudden victory where Shaw got the winning takedown for a 4-1 win by decision.Â
157 - (5) Brandon Cannon (OSU) def. Keegan Knapp (KSU), TF, 21-5
Cannon quickly got the 3-0 lead with a takedown. Knapp earned an escape to make it 3-1. The first period ended with Cannon leading 6-1. Midway through the second Cannon added another takedown for a 9-3 lead. The third period started with Cannon leading 12-3 with almost two minutes of riding time. An Ohio State reversal made it 14-4 before Cannon finished off the bout for a win by technical fall, 21-5.Â
165 - (10) Paddy Gallagher (OSU) def. Reese Stephens (KSU), D, 5-2
Gallagher muscled his way to a 3-0 lead with a takedown two-minutes into the opening period. The match went to the second with Gallagher leading 3-1. An escape by Gallagher sent the match to the third with Ohio State up, 4-1. Stephens chose bottom to start the final two minutes and scored a quick escape but it was not enough. Gallagher got the win by decision, 5-2
174 - (5) Carson Kharchla (OSU) def. Aaron Ferguson (KSU), TF, 19-4Â
Kharchla led 9-3 after three minutes with three takedowns. Kharchla added another to open the second after a Ferguson escape. The lead grew to 15-4 headed to the final period. With an escape and takedown, Kharchla got the win by technical fall, 19-5.Â
184 - (6) Dylan Fishback (OSU) def. Trent Thomas (KSU), TF, 17-2
In his Ohio State home debut, Fishback scored first with a takedown for a 3-1 lead after a Thomas escape. Another takedown made it 6-1 Buckeyes. The lead increased to 9-2 with almost two minutes of riding time headed to the second. From bottom, Fishback escaped and added a takedown to make it 13-2. With a four-point nearfall, Fishback gets the 17-2 win by technical fall.Â
197 - Seth Shumate (OSU) def. Blake Schaffer (KSU), D, 5-3
There was no score in the first three minutes of action. Shumate got on the board with a reversal for a 2-1 lead after a Schaffer escape. That was the score after five minutes. Schaffer evened the match (2-2) with an escpae to start the third. Shumate then got the first takedown to lead 5-3 after a Schaffer escape. Shumate battled to the end to win by decision, 5-3.Â
HWT - (3) Nick Feldman (OSU) def. Brentan Simmerman (KSU), TF, 20-4
Feldman got out to a fast start and a 3-1 lead with a takedown. He added another after two minutes to lead 6-2. The bout went to the second with Feldman leading 9-2. Feldman added an escape point early in the second and then added a point for stalling and a takedown for a 17-4 lead. He closed out the match to win by technical fall, 20-4
