Ohio State Wins Twice, Faces No. 2 Nebraska Sunday at National Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 4/6 Ohio State (3-0) earned a 33-6 win over Wyoming (1-1) in the opening round and then handled No. 10 Minnesota (1-1) in the quarterfinals of the 2025 National Duals Invitational sponsored by Paycom Saturday at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Saturday.
The Buckeyes will now face No. 2 Nebraska in the semifinals Sunday (11 a.m./Flowrestling.org.)
Against the Cowboys, the Buckeyes took a 23-0 lead behind a pin by All-American Jesse Mendez just 33 seconds into his match against John Aiden of the Cowboys. Mendez followed a Ben Davino win by technical fall in his bout at 133.
Freshman Maddox Shay earned his first dual win at Ohio State with an 8-0 victory at 149 before Brandon Cannon cruised to an 18-3 win by technical fall at 157.
The Buckeyes advanced to face No. 10 Minnesota in the quarterfinals later in the day. The Gophers defeated No. 11 Virginia Tech in the Round of 16, 19-17 to advance.
Ohio State jumped to a 19-0 lead against the Gophers behind a Nic Bouzakis upset win over No. 8 Jore Volk at 125, a tech fall victory be Davino and a major decision Mendez victory. The Buckeyes finished off the win with Carson Kharchla (174) winning by technical fall and a pair of decision wins by Seth Shumate (197) and Nick Feldman (HWT).

125 - (16) Brendan McCrone (OSU) def. Sefton Douglass (WYO), D, 9-3
McCrone earned a quick takedown and then built more than two minutes, 30 seconds of riding time heading to the second period. From neutral position, Douglass scored a takedown near the end of the period to tie it at 3-all. McCrone earned a point for locked hands and an escape to take a 5-3 lead. McCrone added a takedown and a point for a riding time earns a 9-3 win.

After a scoreless opening period, Shaw scored an escape early in the second period. Shaw added a takedown for a 4-0 advantage. Shaw built more than a minute of riding time in the second period. Starting neutral in the third, Shaw added a takedown and point for riding time to win by major decision, 8-0.

Hill scored a takedown before Cannon took a 4-3 after an escape and takedown. Cannon ended the period with more than a minute of riding time. Cannon escaped in the second for a 5-3 lead. He then added a takedown and four-point nearfall followed by a two-point nearfall for a before getting the win by technical fall 18-3.

Swan scored a late takedown in the first for a 3-0 lead after three minutes. From neutral, Birden scored a takedown and after a Swan escape, Wyoming led 4-3. Birden's takedown was challenged but upheld to end the period with Swan leading 4-3. Swan escaped in the third for a 5-3 advantage and that's where it ended for a win by decision, 5-3.

Kharchla went up 6-2 with a couple early takedowns followed by Davis escapes. Davis was awarded a stalling point before a takedown. Kharchla got the escape before a takedown of his own for a 10-5 lead after three minutes. Kharchla quickly escaped to start the second and finished the period with a 14-5 led after a late takedown. Davis started down in the third. Kharchla went over two minutes of riding time in the match before a Davis escape made it 14-6.
184 - (7) Dylan Fishback (OSU) def. No. 10 Eddie Neitenbach (WYO), D, 10-7
Fishback wasted no time in taking a 3-0 lead before a four-point nearfall for a 7-1 advantage after three minutes. Fishback started down in the second before an escape made it 8-1 after two periods. Neitenbach scored a takedown followed by a Fishback escape to make it 9-4 Buckeyes. The match was tied up late after a couple Neitenbach takedowns to make it 10-all with seven seconds left. Officials reviewed the last Wyoming takedown and it was reversed to make it 10-7 Ohio State. Fishback then got the win by decision, 10-7.
197 - (4) Joey Novak (WYO) def. (13) Luke Geog (OSU), D, 7-0
Novak got a takedown with under 30 seconds in the opening period. The match stopped briefly with a Geog injury, Novak added an escape to end the period to lead 4-0. Novak was awarded a stalling point in the second for a 5-0 advantage. Another escape point in the third upped the lead to 6-0. With a point for riding time, Novak won by decision, 7-0.
HWT - (6) Nick Feldman (OSU) def. Christian Carroll (WYO), D, 7-3
After a scoreless opening period, Carroll escaped for a 1-0 lead early in the second. Feldman then got a takedown for a 3-2 lead after a quick Carroll escape. The score held after five minutes. Feldman earned an escape to open the third. Feldman added a late takedown to win by decision, 7-3.

Bouzakis earned the first takedown about halfway through the opening period. Volk added an escape to end the period trailing 3-1. From bottom, Volk added another escape to trail 3-2 after five minutes of action. Bouzakis took bottom in the third and escaped for a 4-2 lead. Volk countered with a takedown before Bouzakis tied it at 5-all with an escape. The bout went to overtime tied a 5-all. Bouzakis earned the win by decision in sudden victory with a takedown, 8-5.

Davino struck first with a takedown followed by a Cannon escape. Another takedown made it 6-1 Buckeyes. Davino went to the second period with a 9-2 lead. From bottom, Davino scored a reversal in less than a minute into the period for an 11-2 advantage. Another takedown made it 14-3 Buckeyes going to the final two minutes. Davion added a three-point nearfall for a 17-5 lead before he closed out the match with a point for stalling and a takedown for a 21-5 win by technical.

Mendez scored a takedown late to head to the second period with a 3-1 lead after a VomBaur escape. VomBaur escaped before a Mendez takedown made it 6-2 Buckeyes. VomBaur escaped late in the second to go to the third trailing Mendez, 7-3. Mendez added two takedowns for a 13-4 lead and with a point for riding time, won the bout by major decision, 14-5.

A takedown with 90 seconds gone in the first made it 3-0 Buckeyes. Eisch countered with a reversal before a Stiles escape and quick takedown sent the bout to the second with Ohio State leading 7-2. From bottom, Stiles scored a reversal to lead 9-3 after five minutes. Eisch escaped early in the third but another two Stiles takedowns made it 15-9 for a win by decision.

Cannon got out of the gates with a quick takedown for a 3-1 lead after a Millard escape. Cannon added another takedown and a four-point nearfall for a 10-1 lead. Another takedown made it 13-2 after the first three minutes. Millard added an escape in the second before a takedown and two-point nearfall cut the Cannon lead to 13-8 toing to the third. Cannon escaped early in the third for a 14-8 advantage before a takedown made it 18-8 for a win by major decision.

There was no score in the opening three minutes. Gallagher earned a stalling point before getting an escape for a 2-0 lead after two periods. Sparks got an escape in the third and with a point for riding time sent the bout to sudden victory tied at 2-all. Sparks got the win, 3-2 after Gallagher was called for stalling.
