Seven different Buckeyes are semifinalist for 10 different awards … most for multiple awards
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State star wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate were each named today as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, presented by Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, which honors college football's outstanding receiver.
Despite playing less than half of the game Saturday vs. UCLA, Smith made a spectacular, one-handed catch on the sidelines and caught four passes to increase his season totals to 69 receptions for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns. Smith currently ranks nationally:
§ T3rd – 10 touchdowns
§ 7th – 69 receptions
§ 7th – 6.9 receptions per game
§ 9th – 902 yards
§ 9th – 90.2 yards per game
§ T9th – Four 100-yard receiving gamers
Tate has missed the last two Ohio State games. He has 39 receptions for 711 yards and seven touchdowns. Tate's 18.2 yards per reception average is 19th nationally but jumps to fifth nationally among players with at least 35 receptions.
Tate has four touchdowns this season of 40 yards or greater and is No. 3 nationally with 10 30-yard receptions and No. 3 nationally with eight 40-plus yard receptions.
Ohio State now has seven different players named a total of 18 times as a semifinalist for 10 national awards to date.
