COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior guard Bruce Thornton has been named a preseason All-Big Ten honoree for the second consecutive season. The Fairburn, Ga., native is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, including second team honors last year.
Thornton is coming off a season in which he averaged a career-best 17.7 ppg, becoming just the fourth Buckeye over the last 12 years to averaged 17 ppg for a season. He had 148 assists and just 47 turnovers, leading the Big Ten and was Top 10 nationally with a 3.15 assist-to-turnover ratio. He also shot over 50 percent from the floor and was a career-best 42.4 percent from long range.
Thornton will likely be the first Buckeye to be a four-time team captain. He is also on track to finish in the Top 10 in program history in scoring, assists, three-pointers made and career games started. Thornton has scored 1,487 career points and has started and played in all but one game over the past three seasons (102 games).
Thornton and the Buckeyes will host Ohio in an exhibition game on Oct. 26 and then open the regular season on Monday, Nov. 3 against IU Indy.
