Threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns in win over Minnesota on Saturday night
COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time this season, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin has earned Big Ten Freshmen of the Week honors from the conference office.
Sayin, a sophomore academically and redshirt freshman in eligibility, led the Buckeyes a 42-3 win over Minnesota on Saturday night by completing 23 of 27 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those TDs came in the second quarter – a nine-yard strike to Jeremiah Smith and a 44-yarder to Carnell Tate – as the Buckeyes opened up a 21-3 halftime lead and never looked back.
Sayin leads the nation in completion percentage (80.2) as he's connected on 101 of 126 passes attempts so far in five games. His 197.0 quarterback rating is third-best in the country and his 13 touchdown passes are tied for eighth. Sayin has completed at least 78 percent of his passes in each of the last four games and topped the 300-yard mark three times this season.
The No. 1-ranked Buckeyes (5-0) hit the road this weekend to face No. 17 Illinois (5-1) on Saturday for a noon ET kickoff at Gies Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast to a national audience on FOX.
