… Is now completing 80 pct. of his passes with 19 touchdown throws vs. just three INTs
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin, a sophomore academically and a red-shirt freshman eligibility-wise, has been named this week's Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week and its Freshman of the Week for his record-setting efforts in Ohio State's 34-0 victory over Wisconsin Saturday in Madison.
Sayin was also named today to the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 for the third time this season.
Sayin threw for a career-high 393 yards and a career-high tying four touchdown passes Saturday in Madison amid another razor sharp afternoon throwing the football. Sayin, who leads the nation with an 80 percent completion percentage, completed 36 of 42 passes (85.7 pct.) while connecting with 10 different receivers with no interceptions. He found Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate 15 times for 208 yards and two scores in the process while eclipsing his previous high games for completions and attempts.
In addition to being No. 1 nationally in completion percentage, Sayin is No. 2 in QB rating (189.7), No. 4 in TD passes (19) and is emerging as a leading candidate for every major national award, including the Heisman Trophy, while directing the No. 1 Buckeyes.
Ohio State, 7-0 overall, 4-0 in the Big Ten and with 11 consecutive victories, is off this week before hosting Penn State at Ohio Stadium on Nov. 1. Game time is set for 12 noon with FOX broadcasting to a national audience.
