On the team's game plan:
“We wanted to come out and throw the ball more in this game and try to get a feel of where we really are in the passing game because we know we are going to need both here down the stretch. That’s a defense that I think is a very good defense. They don’t always get put in the best situations throughout the season. I said to our offense, this is a defense that tackles well and they’re well coached. When we broke down it was because we either lost focus or didn’t execute all the way down the field. A good defense is going to force you to work the ball down the field like that. They’re not just going to let you take long shots. Even when we try to shoot the ball down the field you could tell they were backing up. It is good for them to feel that as well. But, now as we throw and catch, we have to be efficiently working the ball down the field. All it takes is one play to be off and you find yourself off schedule.”
On the passing game:
“To see us throw the ball the way we did was a big step In the right direction and I thought Julian made some really good decisions in the RPO game. I thought he checked the ball down for the most part when we needed to and then his off schedule plays were excellent to me.”
On Isaiah West:
“On the iPad on the sideline he had two runs I thought were good. One went for seven (yards) and I forget what the other one was for him but he hit them good. There were two guys in the hole that he made miss. So, good signs for a young back. We will see what the tape looks like and see where to go from here."
On how impressed he is with Julian Sayin:
“I’m impressed with his preparation. I sit in those meeting with Billy, him and Lincoln. The amount of information he is processing and that those guys go through in those meetings is well done. When you see it translate on the field, that is winning football. Is he perfect? No, there are things he is going to work to get better at. But, he has got a bright future ahead of him.”
On Carnell Tate being one of the best players in the country along with Jeremiah:
“His play speaks for itself. I mean the catch he made early on is tremendous. You see some of those catches he makes on the sidelines. He’s a great blocker and he is playing himself to be a first-rounder and an All American. He is just a different style player than Jeremiah, but he is just as dangerous and just as good. To see somebody that you know who has put the work in and put the dirty work in, now he is seeing a lot of balls come his way and is seeing a lot of plays. The catch on the back shoulder fade and all those things are working for him. It is great to see him have success with the numbers he is getting now. That is a guy who sacrificed a lot in the past, a little bit last year, had to put the work in and maybe not see the numbers or results. He had faith in this program, stuck in there, and believed in the culture. Now you’re seeing it pay off for him. That’s a great sign for everybody on the team, including the young players but for all positions.”
