Sophomore had five points in series sweep
COLUMBUS, Ohio --Â Félix Caron, a sophomore forward on the Ohio State men's hockey team, was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week for his five-point performance in the Buckeyes' season-opening sweep of Northern Michigan.
In his first series as a Buckeye, Caron had a team-best three goals and five points. In a 5-2 win Friday, he had a career-high two goals and four points, matching his career best with two assists. He scored twice in less than three minutes for a 3-0 Buckeye lead. After Northern Michigan cut the lead to one, Caron had the primary assist on a Davis Burnside score in the second and then forced a turnover and set up a Riley Thompson goal less than a minute into the third. He was +3 in the win. Saturday, Caron sealed the Buckeye win victory an empty net goal for a 3-1 lead. He had seven shots in the game and was +1. He is the first Buckeye with four points in the first game of the season since at least 1999-00.
This weekend, No. 16/15 Ohio State hits the road for a series at No. 12 UConn. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Storrs, Conn., and at 4 p.m. Saturday in Hartford. ESPN+ will broadcast the series. The Buckeyes will then host a four-game homestand, taking on Sacred Heart Oct. 24-25 and No. 4 Penn State Oct. 30-31.
