Sasso Earns Win 100, No. 5 Buckeyes Down Oregon State, 40-3

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 5 Ohio State (8-0) remained undefeated in dual competition with a 40-3 win over visiting Oregon State (1-4) Sunday at the Covelli Center (4,088). Midway through the match graduate Sammy Sasso, wrestling at 165, earned his 100th career victory with a 1-0 win by decision over the Beavers' Steele Starren.Â

 Renteria opened the scoring with a takedown followed by a McCrone reversal to make it 3-2 Beavers. Renteria countered with a reversal of his own to make it 5-2. McCrone added another reversal to cut it to 5-4 at the end of the first period. Renteria opened the second with an escape and led 6-4 after five minutes. McCrone escaped early in the third but Renteria got the win by decision, 6-5. Â

Bouzakis scored first with a takedown just over halfway through the first period. Elliott earned an escape to trail 3-1 headed to the second. Bouzakis opened with an escape and added a takedown for a 7-1 lead. He added another at the buzzer to end the second with a 10-2 advantage. Elliott escaped early in the third but with a point for riding time, Bouzakis got the 11-3 win by major decision.

 After a scramble, Mendez got the opening takedown of the match. Stormer got an escape but Mendez quickly added another takedown and a four-point nearfall for a 10-2 lead after an Oregon State escape. Another takedown by Mendez with a four-point nearfall ended the match with a 17-2 win by technical fall.Â

The Buckeyes scored first with a D'Emilio takedown at the midway point of the opening period. After a Garver escape, D'Emilio led 3-1 after the first three minutes. An escape upped the lead to 4-1. D'Emilio added a penalty point for a Garver stalling call and added a takedown for an 8-1 lead going into the third. Garver added an escape to open the final period before D'Emilio added a takedown and another Garver escape made it 11-3 Buckeyes. D'Emilio added a pair of takedowns in the third to win by major decision, 18-5.Â

Hamblin opened the scoring with a takedown. Gallagher quickly escaped and got a takedown for a 4-3 lead after the first period. A Gallagher escape upped the lead to 5-3 after two periods. Hamblin escaped late and with a point for riding time, Gallagher got the win by decision, 6-4.Â
