Buckeyes in Full Control in 83-64 win at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Freshman guard John Mobley Jr. scored 19 points and junior Bruce Thornton added 17 as Ohio State took control early and rolled to an 83-64 victory at Penn State on Thursday.
The Buckeyes have now won three consecutive games to improve to 13-8 on the season and 5-5 in Big Ten play.
Mobley Jr. also matched his season-high with eight assists and pulled down a season-high six rebounds. He has had 16 assists in the last two games.
Thornton tied his career-high with five three-pointers, making 5-of-7 attempts.
Devin Royal led the team with eight rebounds and finished with 15 points. The Buckeyes held a 41-23 edge on the boards, which was their second-largest margin of the year behind a +20 against Evansville.
Micah Parrish continued his solid play, finishing with 12 points. Ivan Njegovan came off the bench and provided another spark. He had four points and grabbed a season-high six rebounds in a season-high 13 minutes.
The Buckeyes grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and turned them into 18 points. Penn State managed just four second chance points.
Mobley Jr. scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half which helped the Buckeyes build a 43-33 halftime lead. He scored five consecutive points to spur a 9-2 run and give the Buckeyes their largest lead of the opening half at 43-28 at the one-minute mark.
Despite Penn State scoring the final five points of the first half and taking a bit of momentum into the break, the Buckeyes won each of the first three four-minute segments of the second half and led 69-53 with 7:53 left the play.
The lead grew to as much as 20 down the stretch and the Buckeyes would leave with a second consecutive road win.

The Buckeyes will continue their road trip on Sunday when they travel to Champaign, Ill., to take on No. 18 Illinois. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
