Makenna Webster is the Offensive Player of the Week while Danson earns Defensive Player of the Week honors
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Makenna Webster, a forward, and Abby Danson, a goalkeeper, have been selected as this week's Big Ten Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Webster played a big role in the 14th-ranked Buckeyes starting the season 2-0, as she scored four goals and added two assists in wins over No. 20 UAlbany and Bucknell. The 10 points that she accumulated last weekend were the most by any player in the country.
Against the Great Danes on Friday afternoon, Webster scored three times and also added an assist for a career-high seven points. Two of her three goals came in the second half as Ohio State scored four total times en-route to the five-goal win. She followed up that performance on Sunday with a one-goal, one-assist outing in a 4-1 victory over Bucknell.
Webster's 10-point weekend gives her 72 career points in 41 games. Last season, she was Ohio State's leader in goals (17), assists (13), shots (53) and points (47). Webster earned first team All-Big Ten, first team All-West Region and third team All-America honors.
Danson, a fifth-year senior from Clifton Park, N.Y., began her final season in the scarlet and gray by making nine saves in two games. She finished with a .818 save percentage and allowed just two goals over 116:11 of action.
The two wins in goal for Danson gives her 35 in her career, which is the fourth-most in program history. She's just one win shy of tying Allison Williams, who played from 2002-05. Lindsay Quintiliani is the program's all-time leader in goalie wins with 40 from 2006-09.
The Buckeyes return to action this weekend when they head to central New York for contests against Colgate (Friday at 4 p.m.) and No. 10 Syracuse (Sunday at noon). The game against the Orange will be televised live on the ACC Network.
