COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State midfielder Nick Skubis was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week Tuesday by the league office. It's the first league honor for the Tampa, Florida, native.
Skubis scored the match-winning goal in a 3-2 win over UNLV on his first shot of his Ohio State career Sept. 1 in Columbus.
He followed that effort with an assist on a Marko Borkovic goal in the most recent outing against Xavier last Sunday to help the Buckeyes to a two-goal lead against the Musketeers.
The Buckeyes defeated Xavier, 3-1, to improve to 4-0-1 on the 2024 season. Ohio State will next face Butler at 7 p.m. Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in the final non-conference match of the year. The Big Ten season gets underway Sept. 17 at Penn State (6 p.m./BTN).
