On any concern with the nickel depth
“No, there’s no concern but I dealt, we’re fine. We got a lot of guys that play that spot. We’ve been moving guys through there during the spring and camp. So our depth is fine there.”
On playable guys who are game ready
“No, we got a deep - deep room we got guys that got experience, some up coming young guys. They have talent, we have good depth and we just got to keep it going and keep growing.”
On Aaron's readiness
“He’s coachable and has a passion to play the game. He wants to learn, so that's a part of it, you want to have that passion and energy to play the game.”Q:How do you explain the culture that you brought along here?
On Lorenzo Styles Jr.
"He's grown a lot. He's doing some great things out there. He's super fast, super athletic. He's gonna be a really good nickel here and he can play outside corner if he wants to, but the nickel position fits him really well and his future is going to be really bright."
On bringing back the standard of BIA
"It means everything that it's back, it means everything to the school, the people that came before us because we literally had talks, I remember in 2022 season, we're going to bring this thing back. We talked about it so many times, the revival of BIA, we really talked about this before it happened last year. We just see it happen in fruition is crazy, but we knew it was going to come back to the standard and what those guys left behind us."
On Calvin Simpson-Hunt
“Calvin has gotten a lot better; I would say that Calvin has gotten smarter just like his game knowledge is expecting different kind of routes and stuff like that”
On when he felt he started to get comfortable with the team
I would say in the spring, I started to get a lot more comfortable in our defense.
On going up against Jeremiah
I love it he's tough. I like going against him a lot. It's really good. Jeremiah, he forces me to play the ball because if you don't play the ball against him, he'll go get it.
On his growth as a Buckeye
“I feel like I'm more immersed in the culture itself in BIA, with the guys, I'm a lot closer with all them. But then also just, I feel like I'm always getting better every single day ever since I've been here, I've been learning a lot, and I feel like that's starting to show on the field.”
On his sense of urgency
“I felt that sense of urgency trying to get on the field as a young dude and then same thing now. So, I've been picking, I've been stepping up my game every single day, getting better and the coaches noticed that my teammates noticed that I gain trust and respect to everybody around here. So, continue to be on that and when it's my time to go make a play, I'm going to make the play.”
On what he brings to the unit
“I feel like I'm pretty dynamic. So within this unit, every single guy is a different type of player. We have IGB kind of long quick feet. Jermaine kind of in that same spot, Jordan who can go down, hit and close, do his job too so I can bring that same. So when we need some fresh legs out there, I can go make a play. Jordan does a series. I got to do a series so we got a long season. So everyone has to be out there and be at that competitive standard.”
On the feeling of stepping across that line
“Oh there’s just a feeling that I have for football. I just got a switch I turn on and everything that's going on around me off the field goes away until the hammer comes back on and it's back to reality.”
On getting into the end zone
“I just want to score, and find a way to get into the end zone. I play defense and you don’t get that many opportunities and when you do, you have to capitalize on it.”
On what it has been like competing against Jeremiah
“I think he's like a different type of talent. I don't think I've ever seen anything like him because he's so tall and big and he can run as well. So it's like you got a good mix of everything when you're going against him and Carnal and Brandon come back every day.”
On Competing at practice with WRs
“It has been a lot of fun, we are getting them better, and we come with a mentality that we go harder every day in practice and you know they come barking back now. That's just what we continue to try and bring into practice, just bring that dog out of everybody else. Especially for me as a leader with this group, I just try to continue to bring the guys up with me and get the mentality to win everyday.”
On his Thoughts and impressions of Will Howard through camp so far
“He’s been doing his thing, great reads. He’s only thrown one interception at camp but really, he's a great leader/vet, person and quarterback. I will say for me, his pocket presence, how he handles his team, how he breaks the huddle, how he finishes his plays, how he is in the live periods when it's good on good when the ball is down and just him seeing him the balls he throws and what he's been doing on the field, moving the ball, he is a great add to the team.”
