Ohio State’s season opener slated for Friday at home against UAlbany
COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the curtain lifts on the 2024 season, the Big Ten Conference announced its preseason Players to Watch list on Wednesday. Included on it were a trio of Buckeyes: graduate student Makenna Webster, junior Katie Fichtner and sophomore Anne Marie Krebs.
Webster looks to continue her stellar campaign at Ohio State this season, after leading the team last year in points with 47 — the most in 13 years. The St. Louis native played in all 20 games in 2023 and finished third in the Big Ten with 16 goals. Webster also plays on the women's ice hockey team, and helped lead them to a national championship last March.
Fichtner has played 39 career games for the scarlet and gray, and was named the team's Rookie of the Year after her freshman season in 2022. Last year, she helped the Buckeyes register five shutouts, and notched four shots on goal. Fichtner also started 18 of 20 games last year and helped Ohio State's defense hold 12 opponents to one goal or less.
Krebs, a midfielder, was the only freshman on the squad last season to start in all 20 games for the Buckeyes. The Louisville, Ky. native notched seven assists in 2023, the second-highest total on the team, and tallied a career-high three points in her collegiate debut against Lehigh in last year's season opener. In the matches where Krebs recorded an assist, Ohio State was 6-0.
Ohio State will open the 2024 season with a two-game home series this weekend: Friday against UAlbany (4 p.m.) and Sunday where they'll meet the Bucknell Bisons (2 p.m.). Links for live stats and how to stream can be found on the schedule page of OhioStateBuckeyes.com
