COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State swimmer Hunter Armstrong and Team USA won the first gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics for Team USA with a win in the 4x100 free relay on Saturday.
Armstrong swam a phenomenal third leg of 46.75 in the relay. With Team USA in a tight race with China, Australia and Italy, Armstrong propelled the Americans ahead, getting more than a body length ahead at the end of his leg. Team USA finished in 3:09.28, over a second ahead of rival and silver-medalist Australia (3:10.35).
This is Armstrong's second Olympic gold medal; Armstrong won gold at the Tokyo Olympics in the 4x100 medley relay after helping Team USA qualify for the event finals.
Armstrong will be back in action tomorrow in the 100 back.
